SEM HC Frank Gallardo isn’t going to Los Altos

By Tim Peterson

(South El Monte) – South El Monte Head Coach Frank Gallardo wants the truth to be known. He wants to dispel all the rumors. He is not going to Los Altos!

“I have not applied for the Los Altos job. I’m not a finalist, I’m not interested in the job,” Gallardo said Thursday. “I’m happy at South El Monte. There’s people out there talking nonsense. I’m now getting phone calls all the time saying ‘Is it true? Is it true? All these guys are saying these nonsense things.”

Despite rumors and blogging to the contrary Gallardo isn’t leaving South El Monte. And really, why would he be? In his second year at South he is coming off of a season in which he led the Eagles to an 11-2 overall record and a trip to the CIF Division 13 semi finals. For South El Monte it was its best year since 2005.

He’s got the Eagles back on track and improvements to the on campus facilities are also on the way. Unfortunately in the football coaching world with success comes rumors that you are looking for bigger and better things. So when Dale Ziola stepped down at Los Altos last month the speculation started that Gallardo was ready to move.

When the coach rumored to be leaving is silent that usually means that a move is coming. In this case Gallardo wasn’t silent. He wants everybody to know. He’s not going anywhere.

Show us the proof that Gallardo applied. I don’t think anyone can do this, because the school will not divulge names. On the other hand, the very fact that nobody can show hard evidence of Frank’s application permits Gallardo to deny his involvement with impunity.

Easy Frank Gallardo, you’re talking like you’re not going because you had a choice. You definitely applied but you were never a finalist for the job. Talk about spin control. Be professional and not speak on it. Don’t come on to a news media and emphatically say “I’m not going to Los Altos”! The story should read… Los Altos didn’t hire me!

Most coaches deny they ever heard of the Mid Valley Sports site much less read anything. But those of us on the deep inside know that coaches are the most voracious readers and bloggers on here. Thank you coach for stepping up and clarifying an issue that would have lingered until August had you not done so.
