A wrestling champion from Bakersfield with a local connection

Good Morning!

T-Minus-183 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

It’s time for a “Fan Party Movement”

Fans need to disregard team loyalties for the greater good of sports. The focus of the “Fan Party Movement” is not to stop reckless spending in government, but to stop reckless dressing by our high profile college and professional teams.

The major case in point being the University of Oregon… I haven’t seen so many sick shades of green since I used to ride my bike down in the San Gabriel River.

The newest offense which should rally the movement and unite all NFL fans, even the sub-humans who root for the Saints, Cowboys, and Vikings… The Green Bay Packers are tinkering with their ‘Look’ and will be unveiling an alternate third jersey so they can do all of this mix and match crud.

When did Stacey and Clinton on “What Not To Wear” become the fashion gestapo in sports?

Can we just leave the uniforms alone…Its bad enough seeing the Colts in Indiana and the Browns in Baltimore but being called the Ravens because there are new Browns in Cleveland.

A few have asked where former Temple City assistant Michael McKay is going to land. In April McKay will be on “The Mid Valley Sports Show” after that he’s not so sure.

“I’m just keeping my options open and waiting to see what works out,” said McKay who is a teacher at Montebello.

Note from Jim Arellanes to Tim Peterson last night: “I’m staying at Northview!”

The Workman folks have narrowed down the candidates for its football coaching vacancy.

On Saturday, March 6th a kid name Bryce Hammond, a junior from Bakersfield High, won the 160-pound CIF State Championship.

What does that have to do with sliced sourdough?

Nothing, but it bears mentioning Hammond’s dad is former Whittier High School and Rio Hondo College standout Ray Hammond. Ray Hammond happens to be the husband of former El Monte tall flags girl Lisa Levine. Lisa Levine happens to be very good friends with Sylvia Stoker (my neighbor)…and Sylvia happens to be the mother of Temple City varsity cheerleader Anissa Stoker now currently dating state champion Bryce Hammond.

Small world.

The “Arroyo Big Man’s Challenge”, a linemen competition on July 17th, still has openings. The cost is $100.00 per seven man team, contact Jim Singiser at Arroyo if you are interested. Events include; bench, power clean, squat, and 4×100 relay, tire toss, 7-man sled drive, tractor tire flip, and obstacle course. At least five players from each team will compete in each event.

After seeing how things have ended with Corey Haim this morning, I am ever grateful for being born with no talent, no connections, and a face for radio. If you think I’m joking, think again. I spend my days in Burbank and see daily what people do to get into and stay a part of the film business.

I butchered this before so it bears repeating: The fifth annual El Monte High School Football Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, April 5th, (11:AM check in) at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course.

If you want to participate contact Lions HC Joel Sanchez at (626) 926-6108 or Gilbert Garcia at (626) 533-3536

…I hear Tabatabai is a big hitter.

(Which reminds me we have to get EM Lady Lions Sandra Gutierrez and Tiana Stovall on  the show)

Former Olympic sprinter and gold medalist Marion Jones has signed with the Tulsa Shock of the WNBA… Man, I didn’t even know she was out of jail.

…And the Clippers have given Mike Dunleavy his walking papers as general manager. It’s a curse to be a Clipper fan, a curse!

Nothing has gone right for this franchise since they traded Bob McAdoo… You can look it up.

Stay thirsty my friends…
