South Hills Impressive in Win

(Duarte) – South Hills continued to dominate their opponents in the Duarte Softball Tournament with a 14-run outburst to take the Third-Place game 14-1 over Whittier.

UCLA bound Brittney Rodriguez went two for three with a triple and double and Tiffany Rivas nearly hit for the cycle by going three for five with a homer-run and triple to lead the Huskies to a comfortable victory.

South Hills starting pitcher Sydney La Follette (four innings) and relief pitcher Victoria Bernard (three innings) stymied a hot-hitting Cardinal line-up with a variation of fastballs and change-ups at the right time.

The Huskies jumped all over Whittier pitcher Crystal Martin in the third and fourth innings scoring six runs that saw 14 batters come to the plate during that span.  Rivas and Rodriguez led the charge with timely hits that cleared the bases in both innings.

The Cardinals never looked comfortable at the plate against the duo of La Follette and Bernard and only managed to hit the ball hard once that resulted in a home-run by Pauline Preciado to cut the lead to 2-1 after two innings.

After that it was all South Hills ended the tournament on a high note by batting around in the top half of the seventh-inning and scoring five runs.
