(Carson) – Tony Tchani scored for Vancouver in the 64th minute and it proved to be enough to beat the Galaxy 1-0 Wednesday night before 17,404 at StubHub Center.

The Galaxy had its chances throughout but could never cash in against Whitecap goalkeeper David Ousted.

Just four minutes in the Galaxy had an opportunity but Jack McBean’s boot sailed over the bar.

Later in the first half Vancouver was buzzing near the LA net but missed on shots or had the ball knocked away.

In the 21st minute the Galaxy had a shot when Emmanuel Boateng fed Romain Alessandrini but Ousted just did get a hand on it to deflect it out of danger.

The Whitecaps had nine total shots in the first half compared to seven for the Galaxy as they headed to the break scoreless.

Dave Romney’s header in the front of the net almost paid off for the Galaxy early in the second half but Ousted made the save in the 52nd minute. In the 55th LA’s Brian Rowe made a grab off a shot by Cristian Techera.

Vancouver then drew blood in the 64th when Tony Tchani’s header sailed over the head of Rowe and into the back of the net off of a free kick from Christian Bolanos.

Jermaine Jones and Ariel Lassiter replaced Boateng and McBean in the 70th minute.

Rowe made another sprawling save in the 73rd minute. Bradford Jamieson replaced Romain Alessandrini in the 74th minute.

Joao Pedro nearly tied it in the 76th minute but his header from distance was high over the bar.

Ousted made one last big save in the 88th to keep LA at bay.

Four minutes of additional time were added in the second half but the Whitecaps held on.

For the Galaxy it was their fourth straight loss as they dropped to 6-9-4. Vancouver improved to 8-7-3 with the victory.
