La Canada Splits Double-header

West Ranch 3-2 vs. La Canada 0-3(8 innings)

(La Canada) – After dropping the opener of a double-header to Hart Tournament winner West Ranch 3-0, La Canada battled back to take the night-cap in dramatic fashion, 3-2 in eight innings.

Kelsey Drange completed the second game comeback on a 1-2 pitch with a tailing-fly ball that landed just inside the foul line in left field that scored Catherine Horner from third base to give the Lady Spartans a split against a very good Wildcats team.

La Canada was stymied by Bailey Foster in the opener with seven shut-out innings and Amanda Martin was enroute to a shut-out of her own until Shirley Drange lined a shot into deep right-field that scored Megan Siepler from second base to tie the score at one in the bottom of the seventh.

Lauren O’Leary pitched the last four innings of the second game and allowing one-run in the eighth when West Ranch’s leadoff hitter Kylie Sorenson doubled to right that scored Haley Hinman from second base to break the dead-lock.  Hinman led the inning off with a single and a stolen base to get into scoring position.

The drama unfolded with two-outs in the bottom of the eighth with shortstop Anna Edwards nearly missed connecting on a fast ball that ended up being dropped by the center-fielder Bryanna De La Torre and allowed Edwards to end up on second.  After an intentional walk to Catherine Horner, Siepler hit an innocent dribbler to shortstop Haley Hineman who missed played the ball and allowed the bases loaded.

Martin, who should amazing control during the game, was unable to get Shirley Drange on a 3-2 count that walked-in Edwards to tie the score at two.

O’Leary finished the double-header pitching eight innings and Lauren Cox pitched seven innings in the twin-bill.

The victory improved the Lady Spartans to 5-1 on the young season and dropped the Wildcats to 5-2.
