Diamond Bar quarterback Andrew Cameron

Good Afternoon!

T-Minus-170 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

I didn’t mean to upset Pacific fans or Stang Fan with my comment about the Pacific League being the weak sister in the Southeast Division last weekend… but you have to admit there are some week sisters in the Pacific…and I’m not talking about Micronesia, Guam, or Wake Island.

…And the drama in the Pacific will continue for many months to come.

Shaun Livingston is still making a buck in the NBA… That’s good to see.

They play a million games, every night, from the start of the season until the end of the first weekend of the tournament, and then everything just drops dead for three days until  they come back with the Sweet Sixteen.

It’s brings major withdrawls only football or Vin Scully can soothe.

(No, the NIT doesn’t count)

Do you realize that Scully is beginning his 61st year with the Dodgers? Do you know anybody who is still functioning at the same job they were at in 1949? I mean other than Brett Favre.

“What a division it will be,” said Wilson HC Brian Zavala. “I am not to thrilled about the six leagues. I do not think it is fair to only have two teams guarateed playoffs.  Competition is great, but when you have seven and eight team leagues, how can you only have two teams getting into playoffs? The Almont league schools have an edge on the rest of us, their enrollment is just about doubled what we have.”

Interesting; in the current Mid Valley Sports poll the top four team are Monrovia, Schurr, San Dimas, and Whittier Christian… M-Town is the only Old Schoo Mid Valley team… I have a feeling if Schurr (Almont) wasn’t in the mix Arroyo would be one of these final four teams.

This goes with Zavala’s, and many others, argument about the Mid-Valley Division being ultra competitive. Really good teams are going to be left out in the cold this November, teams which normally viewed a playoff birth as a given.

I guess Eric Gagne’s comeback didn’t quite workout…personally I was broken up more by the release of shortstop Angel Berroa.

Garrett Anderson is still in camp though…I wonder what Blue State thinks Anderson’s chances are?

Looking at the new Hacienda (Miramonte/San Antonio hybrid) Diamond Bar looks like a wild card. For a long time the DB faithful have wanted to be placed somewhere, anywhere, where they could compete. Now they get their chance.

After a playoff appearance in 2003 and an 8-3 record under Nick Cuccia, the Brahmas have suffered six consecutive losing seasons (16-43-1 combined). They have only won three league games since 2004 (3-27 combined in Sierra League).

New league members Diamond Ranch, Bonita, Rowland and West Covina have been very consistent the last half decade. Walnut if not being locked in the San Antonio very well would be conisdered a power. This leaves a school like Los Altos and Jim Arellanes looking up along with Diamond Bar.

The DB fans have clamored for a new birth of opportunity but looking at the numbers little may have changed.

Brahmas quarterback Andrew Cameron posted solid numbers in ’09 and he has decent receivers in Neil Ignacio and George Katrib. The defense needs a serious upgrade after giving up almost 40-points per game, plus there is a lack of girth in the trenches.

Stay thirsty my friends…
