@Coacher, shut up. Your obviously on the staff, lol. You guys ain’t beating Los altos or Arcadia or Norwalk or Mayfair or San Dimas (what happened last time you saw them?) .Didn’t Los altos take you guys to the wood shed in passing league (which is your specialty) after your Coach said they wouldn’t win more than 2 games. You won D12, congrats. But don’t running around bumping your gums about how great you guys are, you’re good in your division that’s it. STAY IN YOUR LAME!

I have seen or coached against 9 of the teams on this list.

You guys talking crap about Arroyo vs SC or CO like they got that D1-D3 talent they don’t they got D9-D11 talent and they do a great job with it cause of their coaching. So good that they’d beat Los Altos, Arcadia, Mayfair, San Dimas and the schools they’ve already beat. And they also beat higher division schools like El Rancho, Norwalk, Montebello and StPaul because of coaching.

Give those coaches CO and they don’t miss a beat.

I did not say That Arroyo competed against Hart. ArroyoKnight thinks they did.
Oh BTW ArroyoKnights, I don’y know if you got the pun but the Rio Hondo is probably the weakest of those leagues. They have kicked out Blair and then they can send TC to the MVL. and guess what only 2 teams get to go to the playoffs; 1st and second places. You get to play 2 well matched teams from divisions your Knights should be in; fair is fair. Maybe, every 10 years or so your Knights make the playoffs from the R.H.L. And, what about the other possible leagues? As far as being humble, that only happens @ Arroyo when their players, and or coaches get kicked out or arrested. Then they are Really sorry and get very humble after they got caught.

Knight aka Get Back Coach aka Chain Gang aka Assistant to the Assistant Freshman Coach,
You would love to play South Hills? Remember in the semis when an undefeated Arroyo team went there and got demolished 40-18? C’mon clown you think much would change now? There is no way they can hang with them or CO or Northview or Glendora or any of the big dogs.
Don’t make a good team with lots of history look foolish. Accept what Arroyo is bro. If Singy knew he could beat those guys he would schedule them. He knows he has no chance. You’d be surprised how much more people respect you when you are humble.
From T. Peterson: For the record that South Hills team that beat Arroyo in the Semis in 2004 is light years better than South Hills today. It’s not even close. Shouldn’t even be in the same sentence. In fact the comparison is laughable. Oh and the score was 41-18.

@ Friday Knights- Yes, Arroyo has had a good team the past few years and they are well coached as well. But we are talking about today’s high schools football world. I will give you that AHS will probably do well in the playoffs within there division this year. But what happens when they get pushed up to Division 9 or 10 in the next few years ?. Are they going to schedule up more and drop long time rival games to make them better ?. Maybe or maybe not that is the question.

This is how I see AHS playing the TOP 20 from this group. They would win a few and may even surprise another team or two, but in the long run they would lose to most of these teams.

As beating SEM by one point… a win is a win. But they are a team that just came off a semifinals run and will make another deep run. So should I feel ashamed about beating them by a point? Not to mention they have probably the best back in the valley running for them. This is silly arguments. As for competing or not competing with Hart, you should ask their coaches what they thought about the game. Your guys’ arguments against arroyo are like Swiss cheese, filled with holes.

Arroyo will never get put into any other league than the MVL. The district will not allow it. The district purposely draws the boundaries for Arroyo to have the biggest student body. The MVL is all the teams in the district plus 2.

You know and I know that Arroyo doesn’t beat all the teams in the top 20 except maybe three. D Ranch physically beat them up. South El Monte lost by one point to Arroyo. South El Monte is a one dimensional team. Arroyo’s student body is greater than CO, and many of the other schools at about 2,400. They should be in one of the other leagues.

So, as you have stated, your beloved Knights are a good team. We would pretty much all agree. You even have said, that they competed with Hart last year. Yes, Div 3 Hart. Looking at the MVS Top 20 they are #6 in that poll, and its your opinion, thinking that they, the Knights could beat or give the Titans a good game. I can’t wait for the years that Arroyo get put into The Rio Hondo, Valley Vista, Del Rio, Hacienda, oh and I wish, I truly wish the Palomares. I want them to be the Marshall of whatever league they get put into for 3 or 4 decades. No more automatic playoff spots. Then we will see if life is the same for those players wanting to switch schools and their loyal fans and bloggers. Life is good when you are an angelfish a heated aquarium. After seeing Burbank play Downey and now CV, I would take Downey every time and by no less than a 28 point spread. For any team playing CV in the future, man coverage and blitz the a gap. CV’s weak OLine will make their QB panic and just throw scuds all over the field. Totally overrated.

I know people don’t talk about Whittier HS much on this site. However, last week Whittier Offensive Coordinator benched their #1 WR because they felt the QB only looked his way and they wanted to spread the wealth. This past week they told their #1 WR and the starting QB that they where going to sit them the rest of the year, because they wanted to get the under classman ready for next year. As a result, the QB quit the team. I’m not a parent or a fan of Whittier, Im actually a former coach in the Del Rio League. I just wanted to say that as a coach we always felt Whittier had good talent, but some really bad coaches. We always knew we would out coach them. If this is true, what we always thought about their coaching staff is true (Terrible). Can someone with some sense explain the logic of their decision? Maybe I’m wrong?

Colt 74 is making the points that need to be made. If schools feel they can drain football of its support indefinitely, they’ll be stuck holding an empty bag when the cash cow has died. Fact is, things could be worse: if the Federal Reserve hadn’t started stealing all the real estate in this country and keeping it off the market to avoid price discovery, falling property taxes wouldn’t support all the schools that are still open. That would probably be a good thing, but then we’d have less to yak about on these blogs.

Lack of funds will be the downfall of a lot of small schools.
Covina is at 1200 kids now.

I’m amazed at being able to fund our football program. Lack of parents help is a big shortcoming and Covina Valley Unified School District has taken the football gate money away from us and given it to PTSA and took the District Field Snack Bar away from football and given it to PTSA.

Football was told if they needed funds to “go have a bake sale”.

@ Tim P- Thanks for the insight and response back to me in regards to the amount of work that you guys have to cover year in and out, it’s greatly appreciated . I’ve been around high school sports for 27 years and counting. I’ve walked the fields and seen plenty of teams play on the small stages and some on the bigger ones as well.

Do I agree on everything that’s is said or posted on this blog or any other ?. Heck “NO”.

Do I agree with the “CIF Realignment” ?. Probably not, but at least in some regards you are seeing different sports teams stepping up and forcing themselves to compete against better teams for there schools to get better for playoffs.

There’s a bigger problem within high school sports today. And I’ll spell it out for you it’s called a lack of participation and funds that are available to any school. Let’s use football as the example and the much anticipated playoff schedule that will come out on November 5th. Some teams will be happy to play. Others on the other hand will be happy to turn in there gear and call it a season. I’m sure CIF means well, but some of these divisions don’t make a whole lot of common sense to say the least. A few examples would be travel distance between games, money that must be spent by the schools to either host or travel to a game, and finally how many fans actually go to these games now a days ?. Just my thoughts…

From T. Peterson; You’re right. Downey was 7 in the original draft. Was posted incorrectly. Fixed now.
Re; Paramount – they aren’t in our 50 area coverage teams. Last year when CIF did their realignment we had to realign as well. So we tried to nail down 50 local teams based on our previous coverage teams. and Paramount wasn’t one of them. We actually used to do 3 Top 20s – one for the Mid Valley, one for the Southeast and one for the Northwest. It made it a lot better and it made more sense. I WOULD SWITCH #7 & #9. Downey is probably the better team. Not knocking Burbank because they’ve been playing some great football, but Downey beat them pretty good a few weeks ago.

Also, may I ask why Paramount High School is not on your list. I’m not sure if anybody has seen this team play at all this s year, but the team size of Paramount is pretty good. I wouldn’t want to be some of the Division 5 teams come playoffs. I believe there only loss is too Mission Hills from SD. And they should win there league.
