Delgado Deals for Moors

By Alex Gonzalez

(Temple City) – Senior forward William Delgado dropped 23-points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help lead the Moors to a 63-59 victory over Temple City Friday night at Temple City High.

Picking up in the third quarter, Alhambra watched their halftime lead evaporate within the first three minutes of the third quarter. Rams’ guard Harry Delpilar caught fire from beyond the three-point line pushing the Rams up six midway through the quarter.

It was not until Delgado forced back-to-back turnovers to start a run to close in on the Rams late in the frame. With the help of Nathan Kuoch, who pitched in eight points in the second half, the two combined for 20 of the teams 41 second-half points which ultimately put the Rams away as the fourth quarter started.

“He’s been our guy for the last two years and he is a big piece of what we do and we rely on him a lot,” Said Moor HC Bryan Gonzalez.

Delpilar’s deep ball was the only offense the Rams used throughout the second half. Nothing within the three-point line could fall for the Rams on the back half of the contest. Stephen Johnson added nine points in the second half but the Moor defense smothered the rest of the team.

“We missed easy opportunities, missed some easy shots and on defense we were flat-footed,” Said Ram HC Eric Chin. “They played hard and we sat back and tried to shoot our way back in.”

With the win, Alhambra finishes their non-league and starts Almont league play next Tuesday night at Schurr high school. The Rams also finished their non-league Friday night as well and look to rebound next Wednesday against La Canada.
