(Glendora) – Glendora jumped out to a 28-12 halftime lead and went on to beat Downey 47-35 Friday night to win the CIF Division 2A title at Felix Event Center on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.

By winning the championship the Lady Tartans completed a perfect run in the 2017-’18 season with a remarkable record of 31-0. They jumped on Downey early with an 11-2 run out of the gate and led 14-6 after one. McKayla Tilton knocked down a pair of threes in the quarter and Alexis Lowden scored six points to pace the Lady Tartans.

Alexis Lowden led all scorers with 22.

Glendora also outscored Downey coincidentally 14-6 again in the second quarter to take a 28-12 lead at the break. Tilton again hit two from long range in the second quarter, Lowden also nailed one from deep and Kyra Zovak scored a couple of buckets down low. There were still two quarters left to play but with the lead at 16 one already had the feeling that perfection was inevitable.

Downey twice cut the lead to ten in the fourth quarter but that was as close as the Vikings got. Glendora led by 14 after three and maintained the advantage throughout the final frame.

McKayly Tilton fires away for three of her 15.

Despite the convincing win, the Lady Tartans had only four players that scored. Only three were in the scoring column until late in the fourth quarter when Michelle Can hit a free throw. Lowden led the way with 22 points, Tilton had 15 and Zovak finished with 9. Lowden also pulled down 14 rebounds and Zovak had 12.

For Downey, Surie Camacho tried to keep the Lady Vikings in the game with 17, including 11 in the second half. Ilani Avila had 7 but no other player was in double figures. Downey was 0-8 from the three point line while Glendora hit 5 of 16.

There was a big difference at the free throw line as well with Glendora hitting 16 of 22 while Downey was just 4 of 9.

Glendora head coach Adam Nunemaker was able to empty his bench late in the final minute. Tilton dribbled out the last few seconds and when the clock hit zeroes the celebration ensued. 31 up and 31 down and the Glendora Lady Tartans had achieved perfection
