Temple City Rams: CIF Division 5 Champions

By MVS Staff

(Fullerton) – Temple City overcame a 2-1 deficit with a three-run fifth inning to beat Malibu 4-2 Saturday to claim the CIF Division 5 Championship at Cal State Fullerton.
For the Rams it was their first CIF baseball title in school history and third appearance in the Finals.

Justin Bowman had the key hit in the deciding fifth inning as he broke a tie game with a two -run single to center to drive in Isaiah Isaac and Johnny Cedeno. Bowman’s knock gave Temple City a 4-2 lead that it never relinquished.

The Rams were also down 1-0 in the third inning but tied it on a sacrifice fly by Jake Trabbie that scored Bowman.

Nikko Day took over on the mound with one out in the fifth and held Malibu hitless the rest of the way.

The Rams, who finished 17-10-2 overall, seemed to be having an ordinary season when the playoffs started before an extraordinary post season run.

This team seemed to have found their identity just before the playoffs started. Amazing run considering they were 3rd place team in league. Congratulations boys and coaches. Junior and sophomore heavy team should be good for a couple more years. GO RAMS !

This is the first boys title at TC in a very long time. Maybe since the football championships in the 70’s. Can anyone verify that? Congratulations Rams!

This Rams team plays a tough brand of baseball, meaning that this win is a solid indicator of their worth. So happy for the kids who now have a memory to last a lifetime.
