Bryce Young Decides: USC

Bryce Young has committed to USC. After two years at Cathedral he will play for Mater Dei this year.

By Tim Peterson

(Los Angeles) – Quarterback Bryce Young, who just finished his sophomore year at Cathedral, has committed to USC he announced on Twitter Wednesday.
Young played the last two years at Cathedral but has since announced that he has transferred to Mater Dei. Young led the Phantoms to an overall record of 10-2 last season that culminated in a 59-20 loss to Upland in the second round of the CIF Division 2 playoffs.

Young, a dual threat, threw for 3,4131 yards and 41 touchdowns while rushing for 287 yards and 8 scores.

Young will replace JT Daniels as the starter at Mater Dei. Daniels is expected to be the starter at USC this fall. Young will join the Trojans in 2020.

JT Daniels is like a young Carson Palmer coming into USC. It’s a known that he will start game 1 for the Trojans.

Bryce Young is good player. He’ll have a super star online and WR corps at MD. it’ll be hard for him to fail there. He’ll have the numbers and success. UCLA and Chip didn’t buy in. Why?

Daniels a far better QB college and potential pro prospect. Plus, USC has a monster QB coming in 2021.

Best of luck to both but one will not be a star.

Love Bryce Young as a QB but he won’t go to SC. He will decommit befor NLI. He will end up on a D1 roster somewhere. With JT and Fink in place and with other blue chippers coming in Young will choose to go elsewhere as will Sears. Having seen all 4 of these QB’s play and based on where they were going into their Sr. in HS I’d rank them this way: Daniels, Fink, Sears and Young.

Hey Angelus fan, what does any of what your saying have to do with not caring about were Bryce Young is going?? The post wasn’t Bryce Young commits to USC and Salesian sucks. I’ll even lower my prediction if people like you are affiliated with Cathedral. They will go 4-6!

To FB Fan, Salesian’s Coaching staff has been a joke forever. You guys get your Coaches from Our lady of Talpa Grammer school. Cathedral has never asked for Running time like You guys did. That’s a joke. The Phantoms have Re-loaded and are ready to go.

I am talking in the present you idiot. UCLA is 2nd in national championships only to Stanford ( were #1 for the last 10 yrs), they are the number one applied to university in the nation and the #1 public school in the nation. Don’t bring up this u$c this and that. The truth is that UCLA is based on merit and not merely if mommy and daddy’s trust fund can pay for school. The $c Methodists can care less about you pathetic fans. All they care about us money. But don’t worry, Chip will put you fake “we/us” fans back in your place real soon.

It’s always just a matter of time until a bRuin fan brings up Wooden and total championships from a a half decade ago.. That guy was the biggest cheat out there. Read Bobby Knight’s thoughts sometime. USC beat you last year in football and have the number one basketball recruiting class in the country as of now. Sorry, LA is a USC city now. Congrats to the young man on getting a higher education! I think the md qb coach will help him grow and mature a lot as well as sc….if you see him in practice and in games he has a habit of looking to the receiver who he is throwing to as soon as he snaps the ball…once he learns to scan the field and go through his progressions he will be much improved. Still young and learning but super athletic.

To Angelus Fan. Not sure what that comment has to do with Young’s commitment. Im trying to figure out how me not caring about were Bryce Young is going has anything to do with Cathedral playing Salesian. You know Bryce Young doesn’t go to Cathedral anymore right??? All the talent left with him. Their coaching staff is a joke. A bunch of pop warner coaches. They may go 5-5.

@ Annoymous: I’m not completely sure about your point regarding UCLA. Stanford University has done pretty well with smart football players in recent years.
The Cardinal must be getting the very best of the bunch. I think that UCLA could become more competitive in that area. UCLA is not too far behind U.C. Berkeley and Stanford when it comes to academics.
What a recruiting pitch: Come to Westwood for the academics and the campus life! Being in Southern California doesn’t hurt too much, either.

Bottom line USC takes in any Dumbcrap Athlete. It’s easy to get into USC. How is it that Serra’s Addison had Academic Issues and UCLA did not accept him, but He could attend USC with no problem. That’s why Gardena Serra Athlete’s go to USC. Until UCLA let’s in anybody like USC does, They will never Succeed. Cheat On.

The Phantoms have already Replaced The Transfers that went to Arcadia. Bryce said that Coach Helton has been after him for a long time. UCLA’s Jim More got pissed at Cathedral when 3 Phantoms decommited from UCLA and went to other Schools. Hunter Echols (USC), Redi Short (Arizona) Jeffrey Manning (Oregon State). New UCLA Coach Chip Kelly did not go after Bryce so it made it easy for USC. Bryce Dad is a UCLA Grad.

    SGV Insider,

The quality of the public K-12 system and the UC system hold no relation to each other whatsoever. In fact, UC system schools are among the elite in many programs from undergraduate to graduate. As far as athletics go, I’m a Trojan fan.

Those who think the QB situation at MD and USC are what they were twenty years ago fail to understand that St. John Bosco and Mater Dei receive APPLICATIONS for roster spots from around the country, not just from SoCal. The stakes have racheted-up dramatically, to the point where the Trinity league is a conduit to the pros. All of the guesswork has been removed from the equation; these kids are the best in the country, and it’s just a matter of speeding-up the delivery of talent.

@ La Verdad: Actually, U.C. Berkeley (AKA Cal Bears) outranks UCLA by a shade or two, but UCLA compares favorably to most other public universities.
The deficiencies that exist in the UC and CSU systems can be tied largely to a persistent lack of adequate funding from the State of California.
This has been going on for decades now. State funding for our public universities has generally declined, while student tuition has risen dramatically.

    @ Rapid Rotation: That’s fast-tracking on steroids.
So, both J.T. Daniels and Bryce Young are going to leave USC for the NFL after their freshman seasons? I don’t consider that a realistic scenario; I believe the pros would want to see a greater sample size from both of these guys at the major-college level.

Perhaps Bryce Young is counting on J.T. Daniels to turn pro after his sophomore or junior year at SC. Even if Daniels plays all four years at SC, Young might still be the Trojans’ starter at quarterback for two seasons.
Of course, all of this is based on the assumption that Daniels stays healthy and plays exceptionally well.

@ NWO: Fink is still in the quarterback mix at USC, based on what I read recently in the L.A. Times. When the season gets underway in another month, he could be the starter, the “next man up,” or a benchwarmer.
Football is full of possibilities, isn’t it?

Guaranteed Young is going to graduate early, and will start for the Trojans in 2019, after J.T. Daniels bolts for the league. Young will be in a pro uniform by 2020, when USC will be helmed by the next big name. Rinse and repeat.

All you Bruins are alike. Since you can’t compete with the Trojans on the field you bash those that choose greatness over mediocrity. The education system in this state is at best awful. And that includes the UC system. So instead of hating encourage. And pray we don’t put 50 on you guys this year.

congrats to the, ONE OF MANY sell outs……. and I agree old ucla grad….someone else will sell him a story . I mean the story from MD was “hey we are going to be state and maybe even national champs!!!” Come play qb for us….you know that SAME position you were at making your own name good….not for some guy who has made his “fame” off of the people he told to sell out!!! Why stay at cathedral who won’t win cif MD told him. I mean why stay at the school you WERE at and still get that scholarship offer instead or selling out your teammates and still get that scholarship. Look what we have here……..lmao. He gonna sit behind the HS kid who will end up the starter at USC…unless he switches positions. And since he left CHS, now the other skill guys did to go to arcadia. lol. Hmmmmm arcadia? Really? Why didn’t you vouche for your “buddies” to go with you to MD.
