All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated:
Thursday August 30
Charter Oak (0-2) at Glendora (1-1) Citrus College
Charter Oak is rebuilding. When was the last time you heard that? Although that seems to be the case for the Chargers in the first two weeks. Glendora looked good in the first week in a win over Damien before being leveled last week by Roosevelt Eastvale. This is a game Charter Oak usually gets but this year is an opportunity for the Tartans to reach out and grab it. I think they will.
Glendora 28 Charter Oak 21
Friday August 31
Arroyo (1-1) at Schurr (0-2)
Things have unraveled quickly at Schurr. The Spartans have been outscored 104-35 in the first two games. Regardless of who’s on the roster did anybody expect this? The Knights bounced back last week with a resounding win over Nogales after a Zero Week loss to Bonita. The Knights should roll here. They’re simply better right now.
Arroyo 35 Schurr 10
Crescenta Valley (2-0) at Montebello (1-1)
Crescenta Valley has been impressive as usual coming out of the gate 2-0 led by quarterback Cole Doyle who has passed and run for nearly 600 yards combined. Last week the Falcons dominated Santa Fe in a 27-7 victory. Montebello fell to Garfield in the opener but did bounce back last week to knock off Inglewood. Eduardo Gonzalez has rushed for 206 yards in the first two games. The Oilers will give the Falcons fits, especially at home. But in the end, CV comes out on top.
Crescenta Valley 31 Montebello 21
Don Lugo (0-2) at Monrovia (0-2)
Anybody who had these two teams as a combined a 0-4 after the first two weeks should immediately go to Vegas. The Wildcats were close last week in a two point loss to Alta Loma. Don Lugo has ben outscored 56-7 in its first two games including a 17-0 loss to Alta Loma in Zero Week. Monrovia needs a win and should get it here. It won’t be easy but Monrovia gets it done.
Monrovia 28 Don Lugo 24
San Marino (1-1) at El Monte (2-0)
This could be the game of the week. El Monte has absolutely crushed its first two opponents behind the running of Davon Booth who has 453 yards and eight touchdowns in the first two games. San Marino is smarting after a tough loss to Northview. The Titans were up in the third quarter before costly turnovers led to their downfall. This is El Monte’s first real test. If Vegas had a line it would be pick ’em. The Lions pass the test. Booth and company prevail at home.
El Monte 27 San Marino 20
Temple City (1-0) at Alhambra (2-0) Moor Field
Alhambra has raised a few eyebrows early. Although South El Monte and Rowland aren’t exactly Mater Dei and St. John Bosco, the Moors will take it all the same. Temple City did what it needed to against Keppel. TC hangs in, maybe grabs an early lead, until the Moors rally to get the W. Alhambra 3-0!
Alhambra 20 Temple City 17
Whittier (2-0) at San Dimas (1-0)
Whittier is 2-0 but that comes to an end this week. Whittier has scored 70 points in its first two games, not this week. The Saints rolled Long Beach Wilson and will roll again at home. The Saints racked up 413 yards…in one game. Kyler Moreli and Jacob Buccola combined for 249 yards. San Dimas runs right through Whittier.
San Dimas 38 Whittier 14
West Covina (1-1) at Northview (2-0) Covina District Field
Northview head coach Marcel Perez may have to sit this one out. He was ejected last week in the waning moments of the win over San Marino for a sideline infraction and an ejection means you sit out the next game. Perez indicated they will appeal the decision. It won’t matter though. The Vikings have looked good in their first two victories over El Rancho and San Marino. James Jimenez has picked up nicely for four-year starter Steven Comstock. West Co got its first W last week against Crenshaw. Northview needs to avoid a slow start like it had last week but even if they don’t the Vikings will be fine. They’ll pull away in the second half.
Northview 34 West Covina 20
West Covina upsetting Northview huh?
$IF
I blame the schools. No? ..well then the Media!
We know there’s outstretched palms a-Plenty out for their share. But that was then; this is now
ASB’s get a cut of the gate. Student service clubs park your car, not for free. Boosters boost game programs you can tell the players with. Local merchs buy ad space, and the PTA grilled burger is a bargain at $4.
Multiply that by those two extra playoffs.. See? There was Big Money to be made, and the Federation saw it first
BP Plays Schurr this week, or why are you referencing “we will beat them”?
@LA maybe your should have been a bit more respectful when you talked about last years team, they in fact beat SP.
@fridayknight
Arroyo has had our number, I don’t expect that to change. Our young (Junior varsity) team has a lot of growing up to do before league starts and what better way to do that by playing a team which has a great staff like yours. I think there is like 10 first time starters, our coaching staff is good but there’s a lot obstacles to over come. Spartans need to keep getting better if they want a chance at league
To Friday Knights, beating Schurr who is horrible is not a big deal. Arroyo is weak and in a weak league period.
EM Beating SM 27-20
It’ll be worse then that
LOL
Expecting a decent Schurr team, but we know we will beat them by the end of the night
@ Schizo Schedule: I’m in total agreement with you. We can end this madness by getting CIF to eliminate the state playoff and bowl games, which, in my opinion, are primarily money-making devices for CIF and a very small number of schools.
Yes, let’s shorten the high school football season by two weeks.
Then, we can go back to having season openers at the end of August or maybe even the first week of September. The CIF division championship games should be a sufficiently worthy end to the season, like they were before.
That’s a bold statement LA had a much better QB last year but LA will get the W over StPaul
CO’s tough non league schedule preps them for the Tartans. CO gets the job done 27-14. Some of their previously injured starters will be back. That will make a difference.
Overrated… sorry
Whittier has a stud at RB (soph). Look for them to keep it closer than predicted and challenge LS for the DRL crown. SF, Cal and ER are all going to struggle but may all be in a 3 way tie for 3rd when the dust settles.
We own St. Paul. We beat them last year and this year we have better players than last year and we play at home. W
West Covina upsetting Northview
TC Upset of the week!
Three weekends of high school games before Labor Day. Isn’t there some constitutional clause that prohibits this?
Let’s get this win Los Altos
Let’s GO Los Altos let’s get this win
CV beats Montebello by at least 3 touchdowns. TC beats Alhambra outright. Also, give me San Marino to upset El Monte.
