( Monrovia) – Cathedral jumped out to a 15 point halftime lead and made it stand up in an 83-71 win over Fremont Friday night to advance to the Finals of the SGV Classic at Monrovia High.

Cathedral led by the football score of 21-14 after one and then outscored Fremont 19-5 to begin the second quarter to open up a 40-19 advantage. Fremont tried to stay in the hunt but was never able to climb out of the hole.

Cathedral’s 6’11” center Lee’Andre Howard got into the act in the third quarter as Fremont attempted to battle back from a double digit deficit. But Howard got loose inside for three consecutive buckets including a jam as Cathedral extended the lead to 18 by the end of the third quarter. Howard was a force inside, especially in the second half, and finished with 16 for the Phantoms.
