[Montebello] Garfield defensive end Anthony Ruvalcaba dominated the line off scrimmage all game in the Bulldogs 27-6 victory over Montebello.
Garfield got on the board early when running back Peter Garcia dove in from one yard out making it 7-0.
The Bulldogs got the ball right back on an interception. Jonathan Bautista hit Tomas Serrano on the end and he took it in 32-yards to paydirt, making it 14-0 with four minutes left in the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter Garcia took it in again for Garfield this time from 3-yards out opening up the game and making it 21-0.
Albert Cano picked off Oiler quarterback Andre Maldonado’s pass stopping another Montebello drive in the second.
Bautista got his second touchdown pass of the day when he found Cano wide open in the back of the endzone making it 27-0 after a missed extra point.
Oilers got on the board late in the game when Maldonado kept it himself and took it in from two yards.
Bautista finished with 128-yards on the ground for Garfield and went 12 of 23 for 174 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Maldonado finished 8 of 17 for 101 and two interceptions to go along with 11-carries for 49-yards and a score.
Garfield’s Ruvalcaba finished with five sacks and multiple tackles for loss.
Montebello (0-1) travels to San Dimas next week while Garfield (1-0) stays on the road and goes to Serra.
