To “@ Ron:” I’ve never been a chest-pounder. That’s not my style, and it never has been.
It’s interesting how someone can hide behind an online moniker and make false assumptions and inaccurate statements about people they’ve never met.
I’ve generally been respectful of Alhambra’s opponents, and I’ve been praiseworthy of opposing players and teams who’ve turned in solid performances. I mentioned the skills of Montebello’s quarterback on this very thread.
And, on another thread, I specifically referred to Montebello and Schurr as being Alhambra’s “arch-nemeses.” Bell Gardens has been tough on us, too.
Montebello has won six straight Almont League titles (sharing last year’s with Bell Gardens), and Schurr High earlier had its “decade of dominance.”
I’ve been completely candid about Alhambra’s struggles against these schools when it comes to football.
We’ve beaten Montebello two straight seasons now—after six consecutive losses—and it to0k everything we had to do it. The Oilers are a fiercely competitive group, and they’ll be the defending league champions until they’re actually dethroned.
Two weeks ago, we beat Schurr for the first time since 2012. And, I’ll be the first to say that the Spartans have been down so far this year, compared to their usual standards.
There are three games left in the regular season, and a lot can still happen. Alhambra is off to a great start, but we’re just a loss away from falling back into the pack.
Please explain how any of my comments can be construed as “chest-pounding.” I’m simply pleased about the success that AHS has experienced over these last two seasons, and I hope it continues.
You can scoff all you want, but a streak of 15 wins in 17 games is a substantial accomplishment for any program. We just have to win a few more this year.

By the way, it’s not my place to tell athletic directors or head coaches what opponents they should or should not schedule. My job is to keep accurate stats and tell compelling stories about our games. I’m happy to leave it at that.

ER came out flat, ive said this numerous amount of times… The coaches put these kids in a position to WIN or at the very least make it competitive and don t embarrass yourself…. idk what was told to the players in the halftime speech but the second half ER team came out with a bang! only allowed 6 points in second half compared to 40 in first!!!! We are still learning as a team.. but as someone mentioned earlier about fake fans, we need those fans. i will say this, that whittier RB has some NICE highlights after this game…

Here is the truth about scheduling. If you schedule up, it is proof you desire your program to move up and play in a higher division and test yourself against better competition. If you schedule down you hope to stay where you are or even move down. You do not get credit for slaughtering -20 rated programs. I know Sierra Vista will schedule way up next year and maybe El Monte might. Alhambra may be happy to stay as far down as they can.

    Let’s talk LS vs Cal,

I got there late just before the kickoff and the LS visitors side was completely full, I had to sit on the Cal side.

I’m not putting down the Cal program but it was clear from the start they were overmatched, LS offensively and defensively completely destroyed them. The Cal fans were frustrated with their Coach and his game plan. The way LS controlled the game was something special and if any of you played competitive sports you understand what I’m talking about. There is a certain factor in a good teams ability too slow the game down and mentally anticipate their opponents next move. “The it factor” LS has this and I look forward to seeing this teams destiny.

@ Real Almont Spec: Alhambra’s quarterback, Noah Rodriguez, is a sophomore, and so is running back Issac Hernandez, who is currently our leading rusher. Starting wide receiver/defensive back Vidhan Gurung is a junior.
They should be a good nucleus for us to build around. But, we’ll attend to all of that following the end of the season. In the meantime, there’s still a lot of football to be played this year.

The Don’s quietly going about their business again. Last year the unseeded Ranch went deep into the Inland Empire to knock out seeded teams Moreno Valley and Knight and gave eventual champ Eisenhower a run for their money. They have a much needed bye week coming up and have two critical games left. The comeback last week was shocking. Phony ER fans were yelling at the coaches when we were down 16 in the 3rd and some left. ER ended up winning by 19. Nice going boys.

Here we go with “they are young” excuses! Alhambra has a 10th grade QB and beat MHS last year when he was a 9th grader. They also battled schurr last year and beat the snot out of them this year. We will see in a few weeks how the do against BG,but my coin is on the Moors

It is great that Alhambra is winning but lets hope they can do it next year. You guys have a senior heavy team. Your QB is good but will he have any weapons next year. Enjoy while it lasts….BG MHS AND SHS ARE YOUNG

So the Eagles roll!!!! Boy this is typical SEM, lay an egg against Gabrielino then come out and smoke Rosemead. This creates a big time showdown against Arroyo next week. Winner is still alive but the loser is definitely out of contention. This one could be a classic!

@ Congratulations: You’re hilarious. Yes, we know we’re in Division 13, and that there’s plenty of room for improvement in the Almont League.
Alhambra has an excellent coaching staff which has stayed the course in resurrecting a football program that was almost completely in shambles in 2013. The coaches’ hard work, and that of our players, is beginning to pay off.
Alhambra will be in position for a mild upgrade in divisions if our team can continue winning on a regular basis.
Enjoy the rest of the football season, and may your favorite teams make the playoffs.

That game plan against RHP eliminates the multiple picks they had and runs the clock down. No short field. But RHP is a hell of a team flys around and makes plays.

To readers who can honestly say they NEVER doubted the coaching prowess of Eric Bergstrom, and that the Almont is a high-level league, you have my apology for ruffling your feathers. Since, however, everyone has doubted Bergstrom’s fitness for the job, and everyone knows the Almont is weak, no feathers have been harmed.

@ Jackson: I appreciate your positive words, but, at this point, I’m not too worried about what other people say concerning Alhambra’s football program. The fact that we’ve won 15 of our last 17 games is proof that we’re heading in the right direction.
The Alhambra Moors have come a long way, but we still have a lot of work to do. We’re out to win a league title and make a playoff run, and I don’t see our guys letting up at all. They are playing football with a confidence and zeal that I haven’t seen in years.

@ Jackson & Let me lead you: Friday night’s game against Montebello was the wildest high school football game I have ever witnessed.
The Oilers almost had us. We were not only trailing in a game for the first time this season, but we were down, 28-7, in the second quarter. Our team came roaring back, which is a testament to the talent and determination of our players and coaches.
Based on what I saw Friday night, I believe that the Oilers are a playoff-caliber team—especially if they can improve on defense. Their quarterback, Andre Maldonado, is a heck of a dual threat as a runner and passer.
The Oilers will have an excellent chance of going 4-1 in league if they can prevail in their must-win game against Schurr next week.
Montebello’s 1-6 overall record is indeed deceptive; those who bring up the Oilers’ killer nonleague schedule know what they’re talking about. (Garfield, San Dimas, Crescenta Valley, El Rancho, and La Serna….are you kidding me?)

@ Let me lead you: The fact that Mark Keppel scored 20 points against Schurr isn’t too surprising, because the Aztecs have been averaging nearly that many points so far this season. They are improved on offense, and they’ve actually won a game.
Who knows what would happen if Keppel could ever field a team which has more than 20-something players? I wish the Aztecs luck.

@ LVLions. Smoke another one. Really!!!. RHP with ease you say. I love propaganda. Hats off to Arroyo. I’m very happy they played EM the way they did. If anything it shows EM is human. Those coaches at Arroyo did what I know they are very capable of. Getting there team ready for a rival. You listen to this website sometimes you don’t realize the reason you have to play the games on Friday Night. Good Luck the rest of the way LVLions. We here RHP are going to play one game at a time. I hope we get the opportunity to test our team vs. yours. Congrats on the MVL title. Last time I checked you don’t get plaques or rings for league Championships.

Way to bounce back El Rancho. After getting trounced by the La Serna machine El Rancho down by 16 in a 46 – 30 score in the 3rd Qtr El Rancho roars back to score 35 unanswered points to win 65 – 46. From what I’ve heard ER had 5 starters out do to injuries. Looks like they were probably defensive starts cuz there was obviously no defense in this game

While we have to note that the quality of play in the Almont is only a breath above that of the awful 605 league, congratulations are still in order for the Alhambra group, simply because they have been down for so very long. It’s gratifying to see them take that long drink of water after being in the figurative desert for so many years, even if success in the playoffs is unattainable.

Was glad I got to catch that Alhambra vs Montebello game! What an awesome job by both O Coordinators going back and forth all night. Both have different styles and ways about going their play calls throughout the game, however much respect to both of them. And not so great job by both D Coordinators. A lot of players made some great plays, was very entertaining to watch!! Both sides played very hard. Good luck to Alhambra in 2 weeks I will be there when they have to pass their last challenge in BG to see if Alhambra can do it. Next week Schurr at Montebello.
