One Year Ago: 2019 Mid Valley Player of the Year: Davon Booth – El Monte

Usually at this time we name our MVS Player of the Year. Since that wasn’t possible we posted last year’s POY for our “One Year Ago” series. It wasn’t a hard decision last season as Davon Booth won in a landslide for our 2019 Player of the Year.

Like our selection for Coach of the Year we had to really rack our brains to come up with our Player of the Year. It took us all of about…two seconds.

Davon Booth rushed for 2,939 yards and 36 touchdowns in 16 games. Yes that’s 61 yards short of 3000. Booth averaged over 12 yards per carry and over 195 yards per game. He also caught 22 passes for 627 yards and another 10 touchdowns.

Booth also returned punts and kickoffs and by the time we put our calculators away Booth had amassed 3,632 total yards and 48 touchdowns. Unless you’re playing a video game you don’t see numbers like that. That’s a great prep career for most players.

Yes, Booth played defense as well and racked up 58 total tackles and 6 interceptions from his defensive back position. El Monte went 16-0 and won the State title with Booth as the Ring Leader the entire way.

The choice came down to Davon Booth and Davon Booth. Davon Booth is our 2019 Mid Valley Player of the Year.

@Anonymous I beg to differ El Monte had a better defense than last year when Adelanto beat us. Reyes would of shut down Adelanto’s best receiver as he did all year to every receiver put I front of him. Plus Sergio and Nuno plugged holes perfectly this year. Don’t get me wrong it would of been a very exciting game, but I think our new players made the difference this year. My boy is not a starter but learned a lot last two years

If they play Adelanto in the finals he doesn’t play two extra games. They are lucky Adelanto has no class.

Congratulations to Davon Booth, who should win every running back and offensive MVP award between Mid-Valley Sports and CIF Southern Section Division 12.
He’ll very likely sweep to victory by landslide votes, hence there will be no need for any recounts or investigations…

Around 240 carries for Booth and 150 for Cueva. But I see what you’re saying, but when you have the best player on the field every game why not give him the ball most the time? Also yes the defense with key freshmen Lopez and Ariza, seniors Nuno, Gonzalez, Herrera, Reyes and Velasquez all came up huge in the playoffs. Pretty much all season actually but I know people still think our season was weak but can’t say much about the playoffs

Looks even better when you take into account that he did this all in 15 games. Thanks to Adelanro’s idiocy, he missed out on another opportunity to increase these numbers.

Well deserved, however of course he was going to get those numbers he got the ball 99% of the time. Even double teamed on the one pass play El monte ran it would go to Booth. El Monte would of never had this success if it weren’t for key players on defense.

If this had been decided by the general public, and Davon were old enough to cast a ballot, we would have had a voting Booth in a voting booth. Followed, of course, by the usual investigation for Russian tampering.
