Top Returners: 2020 Football Season

Offensive Tackle Anthony Rosas is back for Sierra Vista. Rosas has multiple D 1 offers.

By George Hernandez

Here are some of the top returning players in the area for the upcoming 2020 football season.

El Monte: The Lions coming off a historic 16-0 season and a state championship, lose a lot with graduation including the likes of Davon Booth and Abel Cueva. But the back to back defending Mission Valley league champions return two freshmen all leaguers in linebacker Johnny Lopez (65-tackles 2-interceptions) and Isiah Ariza (29-tackles 2-interceptions).

Montebello: Oilers are coming off a 4-7 season but bring back QB Andre Maldonado (15-passing TDs, 7-Ints) and safety Jason Martinez (113 tackles). Montebello is looking to get back to the top of the Almont after winning four of the last six titles.

Sierra Vista: The Dons, yes the Dons! after finishing 11-1 on the field bring back two of the more high profile players in the area. Defensive lineman Nick Dimitris (33-tackles 2.5-sacks) and offensive lineman Anthony Rosas. Both players have multiple D1 offers.

Arroyo: The Knights will have Andrew Enriquez returning at quarterback and he’ll have his backfield mate running back Joshua Tustin with him for another year.

Nogales: The Nobles look to rebound from a injury plagued season with a healthy Darin Urrutia at quarterback and stud athlete Marlon McDaniel who will play all over the field.

Schurr: The Spartans will try to get back in the playoffs in 2020 with a pair of juniors to be in quarterback Jesse Preciado (24-passing TDs 16-Ints) and running back Isiah Candelaria (1126-yards 10-TDs).

Wilson: The Wildcats bring back one of the more dynamic quarterbacks in the area in Isiah Espinoza (14-passing TDs 10-Ints, 718-yards rushing, six rushing TDs) and receiver Robert Vega (678-receiving yards, seven TDs).

*Top Returners is the first of a series.

Nick Dimitris didn’t play in the playoffs he was the heart of the DL, plus multiple people were injured….

Are you that misinformed anonymous? If nogales goes 0-3 in league and 7-0 in non league, they dont go to the playoffs! League still matters. Nogales isnt going anywhere. Lost 2nd best frosh player to diamond ranch, new QB is no where near the QB they lost. The QB who threw last minute TDs to beat Azusa and Glenn in CIF in ’18, but youre right, non factor. You talk with your heart not with your mind. As a booster, heck, we encouraged him to leave that disaster.

Well who hired Robles? Before Robles, Nogales had two great seasons and than Robles turn that program around. He left with a 1-9 record but back to the question, who hired Robles is the problem.

I highly doubt Urrutia was the reason they made that run in 2018. Especially based on his play early in 2019. They had two really good players in Eric Galvan and Frankie Ibarra. Both carried that team in 2019. The Nobles have a good young core coming in with the incoming sophomore and junior class as well with the guy who took over for Urrutia in Cesar Garcia. They might go 0-3 in league, but league doesn’t matter anymore thanks to playoff realignment. So they still have a chance if the schedule that is posted is correct

Everyone on that team was a non factor cuz of Robles. McDaniel grades always an issue, Serrano knee injury from last year still lingers, Galvan great kid. Urrutia a HUGE loss, reason they made the run they did in ’18. New league this year, walnut, DB & Ontario equals 0-3. No HC yet, admin sleepin as usual. Another down year it looks like. From a Nogales booster in the know

The kid has posted on Twitter that he has multiple offers??? IMO (in my opinion to those old folks) he looks a little weak in the legs.

Montebello, schurr win league this year Wow … might as well just hand it over to them. If they played in a real league with the big boys like La serna they would not make this list every year. Lol….
From T. Peterson: Yeah but they don’t play in the same league as La Serna so…

Where’s the proof those kids gave multiple D1 offers? This coach has to be held accountable for lying at some point.

Darrian Urrutia has transferred from Nogales and was a non factor last season. Their top players should be malon McDaniel, issac Galvan, and Isaiah serrano

This series is amazing!! Not a Sierra vista fan but I love the fact that I feel like I know a bit more of their team profile. Good job I’m excited to see more of these

Arroyo does return Enriquez and Tustin but the player no one is talking about that will have a breakout season is Nathan Guardado #26 who will be a sophomore. Started on defense last year as a Frosh and played some slot and RB. He will be the next star skill guy after Tustin of course.

No football will be played this season.
From T. Peterson: And if and when that is announced then we will report it that time. In the meantime we will continue to write as if the season will take place as scheduled. The last thing we would do is stop reporting on football because someone “thinks” there won’t be a season. Talk about being unprepared. C’mon man. It’s reporting 101.
