@Rams Fan, whatever we disagreed on, it must not be too important because I don’t remember. I just enjoy reading everyone’s opinion, including those that fall into the category agree to disagree.

I would much rather talk about sports, Tim, and I hope it’s a good thing that we’ll be getting Major League Baseball and the NBA back (in altered form) before the end of next month.
I want to note that I’m one of the few people on this thread who has actually discussed sports; I’ve commented on Bubba Wallace, “Big Ben” Roethlisberger, and the universal DH in MLB this year.
I’ve never started these political discussions, but I don’t believe that inaccurate or demonstrably false remarks should be allowed to slide. And, many things are debatable—even when the facts are undisputed—because people will interpret those facts differently and come to different conclusions.
I believe that debate is fine as long as we’re civil toward one another and make a concerted effort to be honest.
Again, having said all of that, I’d still much rather talk about sports. It would probably be a great idea to keep overtly political comments off this website to begin with.

Hey Tim on your “Peterson Principle’ section I asked you a question pertaining to sports, at least in a broad manner of speaking , and you chose not to answer. Fine, your prerogative. But with the only sports Mid Valley is talking right now being who’s testing positive, head coach interviews and who’s transferring, it becomes pick your poison. Do you want crickets or some lively back and forth to occupy our time? The two biggest events happening in our country right now being Covid-19 and the upcoming elections you’re going to get some drift in the topic away from sports. So if it’s sports or nothing, go ahead and drop the hammer, my feelings won’t be hurt. GO DODGERS!

Look at the comments Peterson. You do away with the political ones you won’t have any. Even the football ones are political, all about the virus and should they play or not. So my question to you is what do you want your readership to comment about? For out of ten takes on this Top Ten are political. I get your frustration but either stop the Top Ten and the ability to comment or understand it is what it is. The Trump show is the best game in town for now.
From T. Peterson: Just re-read “The TEN” from 06/22, 06/24, and 06/26 and none of the items are political – just factual things that happened. Unless you consider someone testing positive for the coronavirus political. Wait, does the virus know if the person testing is Democrat, Republican or Independent? Wow! It’s much more intelligent than I thought. So go ahead and have at it with the political comments I guess. Whatever turns you on. As for me personally, man, I can’t wait until sports are back!

@ Rams Fan: I’ve seen Joe Biden in several televised interviews over the last few weeks, and he does appear to be mentally sharper than he was in previous months. Perhaps the coronavirus-induced hiatus from traditional campaigning has helped him. Adequate rest is always a good thing, and a lack of it impedes mental functioning.
At the moment, I have no idea what health issues Mr. Biden could have. One thing I know for certain is that whichever candidate wins in November will be the oldest person ever elected President. So, either way, age and health are among the pertinent issues concerning the candidates in this election.

@ Falcon Parent: The interview you mentioned, which I haven’t seen, took place at a different time (most likely later) than the comments he made to reporters on live television. The people who staged the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, VA were the ones he called “very fine people.” Then, he quickly caught himself and added, “on both sides.”
We’re talking about two different television events, so we’re probably both right.

@ FAKE NEWS: I value truth over partisanship. I’ve always been happy to give people credit for any good they accomplish. I also try to assign blame when it’s appropriate.
I’m not sure about the cages part, but, yes, President Obama did carry out hundreds of thousands of deportations. As I recall, they were done lawfully, regardless of the protests from immigrant rights groups.
This time around, one of the big contrasts seems to be Trump’s separation of children from their parents, an action that many people would consider inhumane. There also have been ongoing complaints about sanitation and health care at the immigrant detention centers.
In addition, Trump wants to put an abrupt end to the DACA program, which has allowed immigrants who were brought into the U.S. as infants or young children to temporarily remain here.
So, there are differences between the two administrations on immigration policy.

@ Danyelle: I did do my homework. Falcon Parent watched a different show, which happened to be an interview. I heard the President make his remarks on a live news broadcast.
My guess is that Mr. Trump had some time to prepare for the interview, which allowed him the opportunity to make a more nuanced statement about what occurred in Charlottesville.
It should be stated for the record that the man who drove his car into a crowd of counter-protestors, killing one, is a white supremacist. I will also make it clear that I do not support the instigation of violence by anyone on either side.
    Have a pleasant evening.

@CVFalcon Parent- you are absolutely correct. I was going to point that out and tell Ron to do his homework but I didn’t want to embarrass him. All of the Trump haters always point to that quote and they are always wrong. They never bothered to look up the entire quote. It’s doesn’t seem to be that difficult. Anyway thanks for pointing that out. Hopefully he’ll start doing his homework.

Not that I think Mid Valley is the place where political change will start…
But.. Obama put those kids in the cages originally. Trump just continued what was already in place.
It doesn’t matter though, if Trump cures Cancer the media will say “He lost millions of healthcare jobs”.

Get the facts, speak the whole truth. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, you misquoted President Trump. I included the link to the whole interview.
President Trump never said “white nationalists, KKK members, and neo-Nazis were “very fine people.” In an interview, he said “And you had people — and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists — because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.
Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people. But you also had troublemakers, and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets, and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group.”

@ NWO: We baseball purists can tolerate having the universal DH in the major leagues this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. I’ll be just fine with it as long as we can go back to having the National League pitchers hit the next time we have a normal baseball season.

I want to assure everyone that I didn’t use any profanity in my first post on this thread. That is simply not my style in any public forum. The words which were found to be objectionable related to personal integrity.

    Tim,
I’ve real tired of what should be a sports site become as bad as Facebook. Maybe when MVS talks sports again I will come back, maybe not. Look at ESPNs ratings since they stopped talking sports and became CNN.
From T. Peterson: MVS does talk sports. That’s all we talk. It’s not me talking politics, it’s the readers/ commenters. I asked them to keep it about sports but obviously they’re not listening. Sure I could delete every political comment that comes through (which I’m definitely considering) but every time a comment comes through from one side I feel I should give the other side equal opportunity to respond. But at some point they will all be deleted. See what happens when there are no sports?

My Two Cents ,I don’t often agree with you but this time I have no choice. How many national elections have been called or decided before our polls even close? Pretty much all of them. Talk about futility. Popular vote or electoral college never seems to matter. I know this year, because of Trumps “personality” things might be more interesting than 2016.
Ron, please, you know when the mind goes it doesn’t come back. Tell me when was the last time Biden didn’t embarrass himself when trying to talk. 6 months ago he didn’t know the difference between his wife and sister and it’s only gone downhill from there. If Biden makes it to their convention, look for some fireworks.

Booo! I loved watching the pitchers take their hacks. Will we ever see someone like Kershaw or C.C. Sabathia add to an offense by getting that timely base hit or going yard, instead of just laying down a sac bunt.

I don’t know if blaming booze and porn, while using a lot of euphemisms to avoid confronting his past behavior of sexual assault is exactly “taking ownership”. Good for him if he has turned his life around; better still if he truly realized that he was powerless to do it on his own and relied on God’s grace. But to me it still looks like performative piety, hardly something to be held up as a positive moral contrast to Bubba Watson.

If you live in the state of California, you can bicker who will be President all you want but it won’t be up to us. It will come down to the swing states once again as it always has. But it will be fun to see the margin of the popular votes this go-round.

My, my, Rams Fan. I didn’t support Mr. Biden during the primaries, but we’ve been given the choice of Biden vs. Trump. By the way, that’s most likely to be a far better choice than the truly dismal one we had between Clinton and Trump in the last presidential election.
If Biden’s the “racist” you’re making a veiled reference to, then he certainly pales by comparison to Trump, who in 2017 said that white nationalists, KKK members, and neo-Nazis were “very fine people.”
There are degrees of good as well as degrees of evil, and it is all relative since no one is perfect.
Both Biden and Trump are known quantities, and, in my opinion, Joe Biden is much less dangerous than Trump and actually shows compassion for his fellow people. Trump is an overwhelmingly petulant, self-serving, and soulless individual. (Remember the immigrant children who are still being held in cages?)
For a while, I was also rather concerned about Biden’s mental acuity. However, he’s been looking and sounding a lot sharper lately.
I don’t know where you’ve been the last several months, Rams Fan. Never mind me; the U.S. is already facing staggering problems.

I don’t know what’s going on with Bubba Wallace, the NASCAR driver. I’d like to find out, though.
Jussie Smollett staged a racist and homophobic attack on himself and therefore lost a huge amount of credibility when it comes to issues involving race and the LGBTQ community. And, Hillary Clinton wasn’t the ideal person to be referring to certain Trump supporters as “deplorables” in 2016.
On the other side of the coin, President Trump is one of the last people on Earth who should lecture anyone about morality, patriotism, and respecting the military.

The country is waking up. It’s an absolute shame that, after half a century, we’re being forced to re-fight battles over issues such as the right to vote and equal treatment under the law. A truly moral nation shouldn’t have to be compelled to do the right thing.
It only makes matters worse when the individual who leads the executive branch of our federal government is arguably one of the nation’s most DELETED people and also one of the biggest DELETED around. He, the one who takes no responsibility at all, shouldn’t be anyone’s gold standard for moral conduct.
There will be a reckoning at the ballot box in November, and then we might be able to figure out what direction we’re going to go in.
I commend Big Ben for taking ownership of his personal problems and using his religious faith as a means of overcoming them. He is someone whom many of us can now look up to.

Bubba Smollett and Big Ben. What a contrast. I hope the US wakes up soon. The war against the morality of this country is being waged, and it’s getting ugly.
