(Carson) – The LA Galaxy fired head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto Thursday with just three games remaining in the regular season.

Schelotto was hired in January 2019 and led the Galaxy to a fifth place finish in the Western Conference last year and a trip to the playoffs. The Galaxy lost to LAFC in the second round after beating Minnesota in the opening round.

But 2020 has been a different story. The Galaxy have just one win in their last 10 games and are last in the Western Conference with a record of 5-11-3.

“Based on results we have decided to go in a different direction.” GM Dennis te Klose said in a written statement. “The LA Galaxy is a club that is built on winning on the field and being representative of the championship mentality and pedigree that you expect in Los Angeles. As a club we have a collective responsibility and we all must share the blame for the club’s current standing. I take responsibility for the poor results and believe that we can find the right way forward for this team and our club.”

Schelotto had an overall record of 22-27-6 with the Galaxy.

Dominic Kinnear will take over as interim manager. Kinnear also served as interim in 2018.

Schelotto is the third coach to be fired by the Galaxy since Bruce Arena resigned after the 2016 campaign.

LA will host Real Salt Lake on Sunday.

How about we strap Arena to the SpaceX Falcon 9, and neither see nor speak of him ever again?
