Jose Montes has been named the new head varsity baseball coach at Alhambra High. Montes served as the assistant coach on the Moors’ JV team last season. He replaces Steve Gewecke, who recently stepped down after leading the varsity to 11 Almont League titles during a 25-year tenure.

@ Grim Reaper: Being the second-best athlete in the entire world, in any given event, is an enormous accomplishment. She’s part of an elite group, and I agree that any parent ought to be proud.

At the Olympics in woman’s Karate Anzhelika Teliuga won the silver medal in her weight class. When interviewed thereafter she stated she felt her medal was a white gold medal, and dedicated the medal to her recently deceased father. She said she wanted to put his surname in the record book. She said to her father that she was sorry it was a silver, but she did her best.

I am sure if her father was alive, just like any Dad, would only want their daughter to do her best, no matter the outcome.

If her event and interview replays on the Olympic news channel, I suggest any father would be touched. My congratulations to Anzhelika,
