West Covina HC Mike Maggiore looks like a King of Gondor as he gives instruction on Thursday at B. L. Bergstrom.

T-Minus-68 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Morning!

Been informed there has not been sufficient love for Muir in a while.

“You know we’re gonna roll the Pacific Joe!”— Mr. Anonymous told me yesterday.

"Perfect the little things!"

I’m not going to play Nostradamus just yet, but with names like Cameron Palmer, Danny Huerta, and Shawn Wilcox on the offensive line… and a talent like Kevon Seymour they must be feeling pretty good heading into the fall.

(Have you seen Seymour’s highlight video?)

I thought West Covina’s George Johnson looked pretty good yesterday.

So Chris Simms is pretty much done in the NFL…yeah, I said so.

Heard this several times Thursday: “Perfect the little things!”

Great line.

Not exactly Mr. Popular at Arroyo after a recent column, but what am I supposed to say about the Knights?

They’re a good, but the Mid-Valley Division is going to be brutal…Too many good teams…Which means you better be good all the time.

Illegal formation alert!

At the Arroyo six-way toss Thursday sophomore George Frazier got some reps at quarterback. No big deal, until you see who was lined up in the slot; Nick Bueno.

El Monte OC Brian Tabatabai gives instruction to QB Manuel Santa Cruz.

The Mid: You guys going to run that during the year?

M-Town Staff: Yeah.

Speaking of the Monrovia staff, HC Ryan Maddox is excited about his defense.

“I’m excited about our defense,” he said and then pointed out they are only replacing three players from last season’s unit.

Okay, those three are Josh Lowden, Grant Haggard, and Dujawn Jones.

Former San Dimas, Glendale HC Ted Clarke is calling the defense for the Wildcats.

I was impressed with Wilson yesterday. Of course after going against the rest of the staff about them on Tuesday how could I help but not be impressed with Brian Zavala’s team?

Wilson’s quarterback situation is still working itself out…Juniors Brandon Schreiman and Josh Morales are in an intense competition.

Cameron Salce, a return man from Bonita a year ago, stood out playing cornerback in a four-way toss at home between the Bearcats, Colony, Montclair, and Schurr.

Putting on my Mr. NBA hat: The Phoenix Suns are right to let Amar’e Stoudemire walk. If they could have found a way to deal him a year ago, or even a sign trade, that would have been great. But this dude way too limited and costs way too much money.

Byron Scott got the job with Cleveland, which means he’ll be fired in two years and speculated as being the next Lakers HC.

Last Add Monrovia: You have to love their secondary consisting of three seniors and a sophomore. The safeties are Jay Henderson and Charlie Cimmarusti, Derrin Jenkins is at one corner and sophomore Anthony Craft (who had a pick and looked solid in the six-way) holds down the other CB spot.

"Assistant coaches are the football salt of the earth..."--- Moe Brobak

This group will be well tested in non-league contests against Glendora, Arcadia, San Dimas, and South Hills…And should be lights out by the time it faces South Pasadena’s Conor Bednarski, the only real passing threat in the Rio Hondo League.

We missed the Sierra Vista-San Gabriel throw, but I’m prepared to keep my money on Eric Alvarez, sophomore, as the Mats starting quarterback come September.

“Hey, I just want to get healthy,” says His Arroyo Baldness.

Last Add Danny Huerta: The Muir trenchman has started 33 consecutive games for the Mustangs…Meaning every game since his freshman year.

On this date in 1863 the second day of fighting occurred at Gettysburg. You might know about Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and the defense of Little Round Top, but do you know about the the First Minnesota? Culp’s Hill and General George S. Greene?

I’ll repeat my request from yesterday: You can keep Vegas, but if anyone wants to go to Gettysburg this summer…I’m down.

Stay thirsty my friends…
