Temple City National 6-8 Year Olds Win District 18 Title

(Temple City) – In front of an electric crowd at Al Millham Memorial Field the Temple City National 6-8 year old baseball team captured the District 18 Championship on Thursday night with a 9-7 victory over South Pasadena Little League.

In a tough battle the cardiac kids did it again by coming from behind and tying the game in the sixth inning on a double by Eli Romero.

Temple City National took the lead for good scoring 3 runs in the extra frame. Connor McGinty picked up the win for Temple City National. The “Bulldog” pitched 1.2 innings allowing 1 hit.

After losing its first game of the double elimination tournament Temple City National was tasked with a tough road ahead. On the road to the championship Temple City National knocked off El Monte Eastern, El Monte National, Temple City American, Alhambra American and Los Angeles Little League.

This setup a game with South Pasadena Little League. Temple City won a tightly contested battle 13-11 to setup a winner-take-all championship game.

Temple City National All Stars were Abraham Tienda, Alec Drazenovic, Bradley Yu, Clifford Chen, Connor Kung, Connor McGinty, Eli Romero, Jax Lopez, Niko Salonen, Noah Kim, Sean Tang, Shane Gutierrez, Xavier Diaz and Xavier Tuiasosopo.

They were led by Manager Erwin Yu and assistant coaches Rick Bowen, Abraham Tienda, Ollie Gutierrez and Matt Lopez.

In speaking with Manager Yu he described winning the championship as “Out of this world! There has been so many different obstacles in this tournament but winning it all and becoming champions is such a sweet ending” He noted “the resilience this team had after losing game 1 was a huge part of the team’s success. Every player on this team had the heart of a champion. Each time their name was called they performed beyond expectations”

    Little League in the SGV is not what it used to be, but that being said, Congratulations to TCNLL.

    Congratulations ! Very impressive to come back and win 7 games after dropping into the losers bracket including 2 in a row against So Pas. Great job coaches getting these kids ready to play again after losing the first game.
