  1. The Carolina Panthers acquired quarterback Baker Mayfield from the Cleveland Browns for a 2024 conditional 5th round draft pick. 
  2. Former Glendora star Jacob Gonzalez will play for the USA Collegiate National baseball team. 
  3. Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren scored 23 points, had 7 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 4 assists in his professional debut, a 98-77 summer league win over the Utah Jazz Tuesday night. Holmgren, out of Gonzaga, was the number two overall pick in the NBA draft. 
  4. Colorado Rockies rookie catcher Brian Serven played for the Temple City National Dodgers in Little League at Millham Field in 2005. 
  5. Actor James Caan, who played Chicago Bears fullback Brian Piccolo in the movie “Brian’s Song” in 1971, passed away Wednesday at the age of 82. 
  6. The Las Vegas Raiders hired attorney Sandra Douglas Morgan as their new Team President as she becomes the first black woman to hold that title for an NFL franchise. 
  7. The Lakers signed free agent center Thomas Bryant to a one-year deal. 
  8. LAFC has the best record in the Western Conference at 11-4-3. 
  9. Mike Brito, the longtime Dodgers scout who signed numerous star players including Fernando Valenzuela, passed away Thursday at the age of 87.     
  10. On this date in 1980 the NL beat the AL 4-2 in the All-Star game at Dodger Stadium.
