You are kidding right? Del Rio has destroyed these teams in the past. City schools are subpar at best. JV teams would also win. City teams are not at that level.

yes the eagles gave ups 65 points several key players were out everything that could go wrong did go wrong. also BG running 2 point conversion all night intentionally running that score up wasn’t cool. but frank is a defensive coach and a pretty good one one game doesn’t define his ability
in these times of low numbers if you lose key players any team would struggle even yours. these kids are working hard to win every game there gonna continue to do that. this staff has all the ability needed to win. the kids will get there eventually I think we will win league!

I sometimes work at San Gabriel High as a substitute teacher, and I’ve usually enjoyed my days there. That school has made strides over the last two decades; there are a lot of really good people on that campus.
FYI: All schools, especially those in public educational systems, have their problems. No place is immune; the only difference is a matter of degree.

Agree that Almont and Mission Valley league have slid into the depths of mediocrity ; if all you have to do is win that league to feel good about yourself then SGV is new home for Division 14 football.
Next year they will put Keppel, Workman , Bassett and Gabrielino
In new league ……they will play each other twice and we will have two more automatic qualifiers, someone will be flexing as league champion!

@ Anonymous (the second “Anonymous” to discuss the Franklin-Alhambra game): You are absolutely correct. While the quality of football in L.A. City Section has generally declined over the last couple of decades, there are some programs that have remained consistently good. Franklin’s is one of them. Franklin has won a few City titles (if I’m not mistaken) as well as multiple Northern League championships.
The Panthers will most likely contend with Eagle Rock for yet another league crown. They have a sophomore quarterback, Eduardo Cuevas, who reportedly stands at 6-5, and he has three excellent receivers to throw to. In addition, the Panthers are a physical team that can run the ball, and they play reasonably well on defense.
We on the Alhambra side expected to make a better showing on Friday night, but Franklin dominated the line of scrimmage virtually the entire game. Details to follow…

Franklin is a solid football program, and has been for a long time. One of the best in the city section…nothing embarrassing about losing to them. Leaving ignorant comments on the other hand…that’s pretty embarrassing.

Bassett minimal upper classmen majority of the program is Freshman and sophomores.
Bassett vs Sierra Vista. Bassett going thru what they went thru the first time Spathais stop coaching at Bassett. Spathais and staff got Bassett decent because he got the athletes to play football and turned them into football players. Hopefully they improve. Don’t know much about there coach now or if most players returned or just stop playing football?

Yea it was not looking good for SEM on thursday night. They had like 10 starters on the sideline not playing in the game due to injuries. And it didn’t help that the starting qb is out for the season. Basically was a JV team put out to get slaughtered. Hopefully the team becomes healthy and can start league off right

Thursday night massacres! On a night of lopsided scores the shocker has got to be the Bell Gardens destruction of South El Monte. 65-0. Now we’ve seen outmatched teams lose these games but I can’t remember two pretty evenly matched teams be so lopsided. This is ugly Frank Gallardo needs to right this ship asap. Unless there were a rash of injuries or third string Qb, there is no excuse to get blown out like this to anyone let alone a team that is a mirror of you. Lots of questions after this one folks.
There is not much parity in the game of high school football anymore. Looks like there are more 20 point blow outs than there are close games and these are not games where you would expect that. SV dropping 60 over Bassett? It’s not like Bassett was playing La Habra. SEM getting shut out 65-0 over Bell Gardens? Wasn’t this game typically competitive? And there was a time when Walnut vs. Rowland would have been a must see game. But don’t worry all it would take is for Cal to play Sierra Vista and their scores from their last week’s games would be reversed. Not one close game in the area last night; sad.

WOW CAL is horrible but it’s Downey so I guess that was to be expected.
All the score are what we expected: SV is running over teams, while Bassett is returning key players from a championship team with no captain at the helm. LA is in a rebuilding year after Brown left that program a mess. It took awhile but Walnut is going in the right direction. I don’t know if BG is that good or if South is that bad. Downey is just better than Cal and D Bar looks like they have a coach.
It was just out matched Thursday night football. Tonight should have better match ups. The two big ones are CO vs CH and Monrovia vs Ayala.
Looks like it was a night of teams being smacked tonight. His does SV put that many on Bassett. I know they are bad but wow.
