@TEN: I don’t like when stupid posters post stupid takes. The NBA owns the WNBA. You can say more correctly that together the two leagues generate 8 billion a year, hardly welfare. It will take awhile for the ladies to generate big money but to call the WNBA welfare for super tall women says everything you need to know about you.

In the interest of talking pure sports, let’s note that the WNBA hasn’t turned a profit in its entire history, so it’s really a welfare program for super-tall women. Griner’s not exactly the LeBron James of women’s hoops, so there’s not a whole lot to discuss regarding her pure sports life. Call it a slow news day for the ‘ten.’

@ RAMS FAN: By the way, Paul Whelan’s brother is claiming that the Trump Administration never showed any interest whatsoever in securing his release. So, for the purposes of our discussion, it could all come down to whom you want to believe.

@ RAMS FAN (all caps): “Ten” was the first commenter on this thread, and he immediately launched into a political commentary. So, what you’re actually saying is that I don’t have a right to reply to him or anyone else who starts in with comments that are largely fact-free, one-sided, or extreme.
I would much rather talk about sports every time, and I haven’t ever begun a political discussion on Mid-Valley Sports. However, I sometimes find myself in a position of having to decide how many right-wing comments I’m willing to let slide.
Happy holidays to one and all.

Before Viktor Bout was captured he was # 2 on the FBI’s most wanted list. Russia offered Whelen in exchanged for Bout and Trump admin said no, he was too dangerous. Enter the new Admin with no backbone and sympathetic to communists and terrorists and they make a deal for a most dangerous terrorist and arms dealer for a basketball player. Those are the facts and you can’t make this stuff up. This admin is quickly giving up our sovereignty. This is just the tip of the ice berg. Impeach 46 before we all have to learn Russian or Chinese. Oh sorry, that’s right, remember Ron this site is for sports only no politics.

Looks like we need Bruce Rollinson to ref these basketball games, so the hits can keep on coming.

A brawl broke out in the third quarter of Bassett at West Covina hoops contest. Both benches emptied including coaches ! 30 seconds of punching , pushing , mayhem! I’ve never seen that before; it happened following hotly contested tie up, jump ball situation that escalated like wildfire. Really embarrassing for both squads!
Then both teams assembled on their own benches like they were really going to be able to resume game lol
Mutual forfeit and next game too

Anyone have any video footage or updates?

You left out the fact that guy is a court-martialed Marine. He was given a bad conduct discharge for larceny in excess of $10,000, stealing a Social Security number, writing, bad checks, and dereliction of duty. In addition, he’s lied in sworn deposition about being a police officer, he never was. He also lied about having an MBA and a bachelors degree in criminal justice, he has neither. He has a history of making multiple solo trips to Russia, and taking trips with local male friends. In 2019, that’s how he got in trouble, one of his good buddies gave him a USB drive which he claimed contain pictures of their last trip together; that evening, he got busted by the Russian FSB, they claimed that it contained classified information. There’s even more sketchy stuff in this guy’s past. I’m not saying the Russians aren’t at fault, but this guy is no hero, far from it.

But why believe facts when you have right wing talking points?

@ Ten: That’s factually wrong. Whelan has not been abandoned by the U.S. government; the onus for his continued imprisonment is strictly on the Russians. They have handled the two cases quite differently: Griner was jailed for possession of an illegal drug, while Whelan was convicted of espionage, which is a much more serious offense (even if the charge is false).
Either the Russians want additional concessions from the U.S. before they let Whelan go, or, as I fear, they may have no intention of releasing him.

Also in this feel-good deal was Biden’s release of notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout, and the abandonment of former Marine Paul Whelan, who remains in Russian captivity. This is our Christmas gift to Putin.
