"King Mo" Lawal makes his first light heavyweight title defense at Strikeforce Aug 21 Houston show

Covering the best in area MMA and the big boys of MMA like UFC, Strikeforce and Bellator: Here’s some of the latest news in MMA such as UFC’s new welterweight contender, Bellator’s heavyweight tournament and Strikeforce’s upcoming title matches.

UFC:

– UFC signs former EliteXC welterweight champ and Strikeforce middleweight champ Jake Shields, (25-4-1). He should move back down to welterweight and face hard hitting Martin Kampmann, (17-3), in his octagon debut.

– Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, (30-8), has verbally agreed to face another former UFC light heavyweight champ, Lyoto Machida (16-1), at UFC 120.

– Welterweight contenders Diego Sanchez, (21-4), and Paulo Thiago, (13-2), have agreed to face each other at UFC 121.

Strikeforce:

– “King Mo” Lawal, (7-0), makes his first light heavyweight title defense against Rafael “Feijao”, (9-2), at Strikeforce’s Aug 21 Houston show.

– Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, (12-2), and Time Kennedy (12-2) will meet in Houston to fight for the vacant middleweight title.

– Former WWE superstar now MMA prospect Bobby Lashley, (5-0), will be back in action against Chad Griggs, (8-1).

Bellator:

Seven of the eight heavyweights have been named for Bellator’s heavyweight championship tournament: Cole Konrad, (4-0), Eddie Sanchez, (12-3), Damian Grabowski, (12-0), Neil Grove, (8-2-1), Rogent Lloret, (9-1-1), Mike Hayes, (12-3-1), and Scorr Barrett, (10-1).

Area Fighters:

– Chris Fajardo, the #1 ranked area fighter, beat Robert Gooch on July 10 by first round submission.

– Team Florez and #5 area fighter Beto Rodriguez lost a controversial decision in a Muay Thai bout.

– Blood Bank MMA’s Anthony Olivas, the #7 area fighter, will be in action July 30 at the El Monte Expo.
