- UNLV defensive lineman, Ryan Keeler, 20, a redshirt freshman last season, died suddenly Monday in Las Vegas.
- Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury. Ball had arthroscopic knee surgery before the season.
- The Clippers are set to sign former Lakers guard Russell Westbrook. The Utah Jazz and Westbrook are finalizing a buyout on the remaining $47 million on his expiring deal.
- The Dodgers open the Spring Training season Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers in Arizona.
- On this date in 1980 the U.S. Hockey team beat the Soviet Union 4-3 in Lake Placid, New York in arguably the biggest upset in Olympics history. The Americans went on to win the gold medal.
