(Glendale) – The John Glenn Eagles compiled 396 rushing yards Thursday evening, en route to a 46-6 victory over the host Glendale Nitros in front of a sizeable crowd at Glendale’s Moyse Stadium.
The Eagles started things off early, as running back Tuiono Tuifua scored on a 50-yard run with 11:05 remaining in the opening quarter. The 2-Point PAT attempt was unsuccessful, making the score 6-0 before most of the spectators were even in their seats.
Tuifua scored again in the period, this time on an 81-yard rush. Tuiono would also successfully convert the 2-Point PAT attempt, making the score 14-0 after one quarter of play.
The Glenn running attack continued into the second quarter. Terry Henderson added to the score with a 28-yard TD jaunt. Henderson also converted the PAT, making the score 22-0, with 9:34 remaining in the half. The Eagles added another score in the period, as Tuifua hit pay-dirt for the third time in the contest. This time it was a 67-yard run. The PAT was again successful, making the score 30-0 as halftime approached.
Tuifua had a big night, rushing for 264 yards on nine carries with three touchdowns. Glenn continued their scoring into the third quarter when Henderson found the end zone for his second score of the evening, a 3-yard TD blast. The PAT was successful, making the score 38-0 with 3:50 remaining in the quarter.
Glendale got on the board before the end of the period, as quarterback Jonathan Wells connected with receiver Austin Aldrete for a 20-yard score. The 2-Point PAT attempt was unsuccessful, making the score 38-6 as the third quarter ended.
Glenn added a final score in the fourth quarter when back Alfonso Vega scored on a 15-yard TD scamper. Another successful PAT made the score 46-6, as the game came to a close.
Glendale’s next game is on 9/29/23 when the Nitros will travel to Bassett High School to play the Olympians. Glenn’s next game is also next Friday night, a home affair against the Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies. Kickoff for both games is 7:00 PM.
