  1. USC beat Colorado 48-41 Saturday to improve to 5-0 on the season. 
  2. Gabe Kapler was fired as the manager of the San Franciso Giants Saturday. 
  3. AP College Football Top 5: 1. Georgia 2. Michigan 3. Texas 4. Ohio St. 5. Florida St. USC is number 9. 
  4. The Rams let a 23-0 lead get away but still managed to beat the Indianapolis Colts 29-23 in overtime Sunday. 
  5. The Miami Dolphins, a week after dropping 70 points on the Denver Broncos, lost to the Buffalo Bills 48-20 Sunday. 
  6. MLB Playoff teams are set: National League: Division winners- Atlanta, Milwaukee, Dodgers; Wildcards – Philadelphia, Miami, Arizona. American League: Division winners: Baltimore, Minnesota, Houston; Wildcards- Tampa Bay, Toronto, Texas. 
  7. The New York Mets fired manager Buck Showalter Sunday. 
  8. Former Boston Red Sox knuckleball pitcher Tim Wakefield, 57, passed away of brain cancer the team announced Sunday. 
  9. The Dodgers finished the season with a record of 100-62, first place in the NL West. The Angels finished 73-89, fourth place in the AL West. 
  10. The Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera, future Hall of Famer, played his last game Sunday as he is retiring after a 21-year career.

    Once again, we’re reminded in stark terms that USC football will not win even a conference championship if they don’t remedy that deplorable defense. Letting Colorado roll up 41 points is the reason they will probably fall out of the top ten in this week’s poll.

    #1 &#3 AP apparently not impressed with USC. Win 5 straight and drop 2 weeks in a row .
    Happy to see 2 teams from the other “sunshine state” make the playoffs. Miami and Tampa Bay.
