SOUTHWEST TRUCKS TOUR – 35 LAPS

The last time Jeff Williams had a commanding lead in the Southwest Trucks Tour two weeks ago; Williams lost a right tire that took out two other cars.  This time, Williams drove to an easy victory in the series.

For most of the season, Williams has had the best car in the race only to have gremlins find ways to lose the race.  They never showed up on Saturday night as he won by 3.170 seconds.

The race of the evening was for third and fourth as Brady Helm and Michael Zimmerman both banged car bodies for the final two laps that saw Zimmerman spin on the 35th lap out of turn four to lose the third spot to Helm.

Neil Conrad was well clear in the second spot.

JUSTICE BROTHERS MINI STOCKS – 35 LAPS

Darryl Scoggins notched his sixth win of the season with a 2.735 second win.

After having a couple of unlucky races during in two of the last three races, Scoggins went from having commanding points lead to four points prior to the start of the race as Jacob Rogers was beginning to make a move for the top spot.

Rogers could only watch from the pits after having engine problems creep up with eight laps remaining.  He would finish seven out of eight cars and lose 12 points on Scoggins for the 2010 JBMS Championship series.

Scoggins passed Ryan Bragdon on the sixth lap in turn four.  Bragdon was able to hold of Richie Altman for third.

VISTA PAINT SUPER STOCKS – 30 LAPS

When fighting for a series title, running second is as good as running first.  For Rich DeLong III finishing second to Gerrit Cromsigt added two-points to his 42-point lead on Eric Sunness.

DeLong was chasing a wicked-car all weekend and was looking to just finish with a high points night, something that he accomplished.  He hasn’t finished worst then third all season.

Cromsigt on a limited schedule has won four of the last five races in the Vista Paint Super Stock division.

In second place for the points, Sunness managed to put some distance Gary Read finished behind him in fourth.

Seven of the last eight races have now been won by Darren Amidon in the Echo Equipment Legends series.

Amidon missed three races early in the 2010 season and could very well be leading the division.

Division leader Brent Scheidemantle found trouble earlier in the race as Michael Smith and he tangled on the first turn of the first lap that brought out the first caution of the race.

The dust-up cost Scheidemantle 16 spots as he was sent to the back along with Smith.  Scheidemantle and Smith both weaved their way from the back of the pack to finish fifth and sixth respectively.

That would be the best racing in the division all season with Amidon running away from the rest of the Legends and winning by 2.218 seconds.

Chad Schug who is behind Scheidemantle in the points, finished second to Amidon and gained eight points on the season chase for the championship.

Former-track Champion Tony Green continued his improvement in the EELC with a third-place finish.

AUTO CLUB LATE MODEL – 40 LAPS

Mike Johnson guaranteed a victory during the autograph session and did just that with an impressive win in the main event.

That was Mike Johnson’s third win in 2010 and his second straight victory.

The race for the Championship didn’t see much of a change at the top as Rod Johnson Jr’s third place finish allowed him to keep a safe distance lead from Nick Joanides who finished in second during the race.

Rod Johnson Jr now leads the point’s battle by 24 to Joanides.

The biggest shakeup in the points was Travis Irving, who lost 12 points to Rod Johnson Jr and watched his tie for second place disappear and he is now tied with Chris Holloway for the third spot.

Mike Johnson never was threatened during the race as he even pulled away when Rod Johnson Jr and Nick Joanides battled for second during laps 15 – 20.  Joanides did get as close as 0.233 seconds only to watch Mike Johnson pull away for a 0.793 seconds.

PICK YOUR PART OUTLAW FIGURE 8’S – 20 LAPS

Steve Stewart took the lead on the second lap of the race when he passed Andy Schoening.  Stewart led the last 19 laps to win his second race of 2010.

Schoening finished second, while PYP Outlaw Figure 8 division leader “Barefoot” Billy Ziemann finished third.

Ziemann was very lucky to finish third as he spun on the second lap and was able to weave his way through the field to get back to third.
