  1. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a five-year, $275 million extension. 
  2. The Atlanta Falcons had to forfeit a fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft and were fined $250,000 Thursday for violating the NFL’s anti-tampering policy related to free agent signings. 
  3. The NHLs’ new team based in Salt Lake City will be called the Utah Hockey Club in its first season. The franchise, which was formerly the Arizona Coyotes, was sold to Utah Jazz owners Smith Entertainment Group in April. Utah will begin play next season. 
  4. The Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 Thursday night to take a 3-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final. 
  5. South Hills is looking for a varsity offensive skill position coach. DM head coach Jacob Calderon on Twitter (X) if interested. 
  6. Alhambra has named Vailele Peko as its new defensive coordinator. Peko played at La Habra and has coached previously at Eastvale Roosevelt and Colony.   
  7. “One of the worst takes I’ve heard is that this was a leverage play…I don’t need leverage here. We’ve won back-to-back national championships.”- Dan Hurley on his decision to stay at UConn instead of taking the Lakers head coaching job.
  8. On this date in 2009 the Lakers beat the Orlando Magic 99-86 to win the NBA Championship in five games. Kobe Bryant was named Finals MVP. 
  9. Former Women’s tennis great Steffi Graf turns 55 today. 
  10. The Chicago White Sox have the worst record in baseball at 17-52 and are already 27.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central.

    @ #6: Vai Peko played on the Alhambra varsity for two seasons before transferring to La Habra, where his father was an assistant coach. In 2010, Peko helped the Highlanders win a CIF title as a slot receiver and defensive back.
    I wish him the best of luck on his return to the AHS football program.
    From T. Peterson: Yeah I remember. I also covered him in Little League. He played for Alhambra in a Tournament at Live Oak Park.

    Dan Hurley is the coaching equivalent of Superman, and the Lakers job is Kryptonite.
