(Temple City) – Mason Collins scored in the lane with 13 seconds left for Temple City and the Rams held on to beat San Gabriel 42-41 Saturday at the Temple City/Duarte Tournament.
San Gabriel had taken a 41-40 lead when Kan Xie hit a pair of free throws on the previous possession. After Collins’ bucket the Matadors had one last shot but they turned it over and the Rams were able to run out the clock.

The game was a back and forth battle throughout. Justin Wong hit two threes for Temple City in the first quarter and Josh Garcia nailed one from long distance for the Matadors and it was tied at nine after one.
The Rams got another trey from Dylan Lam and Tyler Chang scored five points as the Rams assumed a four-point lead at 20-16 at the half. San Gabriel had just seven points in the second quarter.
Garcia heated up in the third as he buried two more threes for the Mats as SG was able to cut the lead to two at the end of third the third quarter.
The teams exchanged buckets in the fourth quarter before the Rams finally prevailed.

Wong scored five points in the crucial fourth quarter and Collins had four for Temple City. Both players finished with 11 points and Chang was also in double figures with 10. Lam and Eikan Lai both added five.
For San Gabriel Garcia led the way with 13 points, Xie scored nine, Nelson Caceras had six and Mhat Lam added five.
The Rams improved to 8-8 with the win while San Gabriel fell to 10-5.
