(Covina) – Covina went on a 12-0 run to open the fourth quarter to erase an eight-point deficit and went on to beat South Hills 53-47 Friday night at Covina High School.

The Colts outscored the Huskies 22-8 in the final frame after being down by eight points at the end of the third quarter. Kenji Shah highlighted the run with three consecutive threes and 11 points in the quarter.

After the 12-point run the Colts were up 43-39. Sam Barajas hit a three for South Hills to cut it to 43-42 and the Huskies were still down by just two at 49-47 with just over a minute remaining. However Covina was able to hold off South Hills the rest of the way and hit a couple of key free throws down the stretch to ice it.

The Colts needed that run to offset a South Hills 11-0 spurt to open the third quarter. Covina led 22-19 at the half when the Huskies came out and scored the first 11 points of the third to go up 30-22 and they maintained that advantage throughout the quarter. Aden Wiley had 7 points in the third to lead the South Hills charge and Isaac Medina had 4.

Covina was then able to turn it around in the fourth. The Colts were also hot early jumping out to a 15-7 first quarter lead. Bryan Munoz had 8 points in the first quarter doing a lot of work down low. South Hills clawed its way back in the second behind Wiley and Barajas who scored 5 and 4 respectively to get within three at the break.
