  1. Ohio St. beat Notre Dame 34-23 Monday night to win the National Championship. 
  2. Ben Johnson, former offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, has been named the head coach of the Chicago Bears. 
  3. The Minnesota Vikings have signed head coach Kevin O’Connell to a multi-year contract extension. 
  4. The New England Patriots are set to hire Josh McDaniels as their offensive coordinator. 
  5. Ohio St. backup quarterback Devin Brown, who had already entered the transfer portal, has signed with Cal. 
  6. AP Men’s College Basketball Top 5: 1. Auburn 2. Duke 3. Iowa St. 4. Alabama 5. Florida. 
  7. The Toronto Blue Jays signed outfielder Anthony Santander to a five-year, $92.5 million deal. Santander had 44 home runs and 102 RBIs for the Baltimore Orioles last year. 
  8. Outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia and closer Billy Wagner were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. 
  9. On this day in 1984 the Los Angeles Raiders beat the Washington Redskins 38-9 in Super Bowl XVIII at Tampa Stadium. Raiders running back Marcus Allen was named MVP.
  10. Greg Oden, former Ohio St. center and the number one overall pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2007 NBA draft, turns 37 today.
