- The New England Patriots are set to hire Josh McDaniels as their offensive coordinator.
- Ohio St. backup quarterback Devin Brown, who had already entered the transfer portal, has signed with Cal.

- The Toronto Blue Jays signed outfielder Anthony Santander to a five-year, $92.5 million deal. Santander had 44 home runs and 102 RBIs for the Baltimore Orioles last year.
- Outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia and closer Billy Wagner were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
- On this day in 1984 the Los Angeles Raiders beat the Washington Redskins 38-9 in Super Bowl XVIII at Tampa Stadium. Raiders running back Marcus Allen was named MVP.
- Greg Oden, former Ohio St. center and the number one overall pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2007 NBA draft, turns 37 today.
