(Azusa) – Concordia scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 13-0 rout of Azusa Pacific Saturday in PacWest Conference action at the Cougar Baseball Complex.

The Cougars had six hits in the contest but could never push a run across. They had their chances early. The Cougars left two runners on base in each of the first four innings.

Meanwhile Concordia got busy right away. In the first inning Nicolas Erickson walked and Landry Spitler hit a ground ball to short but Erickson beat the throw to second. David Baruch then ripped a double to left to drive both runners home and an infield single by Isaiah Walz scored Baruch.

The Golden Eagles added two more in the second on a run scoring single by Spitler and an RBI double by Wyatt Madison. Tank Espalin and Haku Dudoit who had reached base on a walk and a hit batter, scored in the inning. Just like that it was 5-0 Concordia and even though there were five innings remaining there was a sense that it was over.

The Golden Eagles made sure it was with six more runs in the fifth. They had six hits in the inning including a two-run double by Erickson and a double by Walz. Espalin had a run-scoring single in the inning and Dudoit drove in two with a base hit as Concordia batted around.

Matt Kaiser started on the mound and threw five scoreless innings and struck out five for the Golden Eagles. Connor Meehan and Jack Hyde each pitched an inning to finish off the shutout.

Azusa Pacific used four pitchers overall. Kyle Bender started and worked the first three innings. None of them were able to hold down the Golden Eagles who pounded out 13 hits to equal the 13 runs.

Despite the loss the Cougars managed a split of the doubleheader. They won the first game 7-2. They are now 14-18 on the season and 12-14 in the PacWest Conference.

Concordia is 14-16 overall and 12-14 in the PacWest.
