(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)
1. Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton tore his right ACL in Game 7 Sunday night and could miss the entire 2025-’26 season.
2. Walnut WR/DB Zion Key, class of ’28, has transferred to Charter Oak.
3. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee show that he’s “pretty sure” that this will be his last year.
4. Duke’s Cooper Flagg is expected to be the number one overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA draft Wednesday.
5. Kyrie Irving will decline his $43 million player option and intends to sign a three-year, $119 million deal with the Mavericks.
6. Whit Merrifield announced his retirement after a nine-year MLB career. Merrifield led the majors in hits with 192 and stolen bases with 45 in 2018 while playing for the Kansas City Royals.
7. The Brooklyn Nets now have the number 8,19, 22, 26 and 27 first-round picks in the 2025 NBA draft.
8. The Dodgers’ Kike Hernandez’ ERA is 15.19.
9. Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners is the baseball home run leader with 32.
10. Aaron Judge leads the major leagues in batting average at .367.
The Dodgers need to end the Kike Hernandez as ninth-inning mop-up reliever experiment. The opposing batters have figured him out: Keep taking pitches until they walk or he throws a fat one that they can belt. I like Kike much better in his role as a utility man and clutch hitter; he has clearly earned his pay there.
This is why I can’t make sense of this week’s poll: you’re asked to pick between a guy who’s clearly too old to play, and one who’s unable to play (torn ACL). If our life depended on either of these fellows to make that shot, we’re dead.
