Opening week is in the books and boy did we miss football, right?
Thursday Night Football kicked off the NFL season with the Cowboys at the defending champion Eagles.
*Dal 20- Phi 24
Dallas wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had 7 rec-110 yards but its his three game-changing drops in the fourth quarter alone that decided this game.
Philly didn’t win this game as much as Dallas lost it.
*KC 21- LAC 27
Friday, the Chargers, led by quarterback Justin Herbert (318 yards-3 TD’s/ 32 yards rushing), carved up the Chiefs defense for eight first downs in the firstt quarter, and never looked back.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (258 yards-TD/57 yards rushing-TD) overcame some inaccuracy early to be his usual one-man highlight reel, but came up short to the more efficient team.
Football fans were up early Sunday and if they were anything like this sports guy, they were knee deep in 7-layer dip, and guacamole by 9:30.
* Pitt 34- NYJ 32
Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been waiting for this day since the second he signed with Pittsburgh.
Rodgers threw four touchdowns against the organization who released him mere months ago, and he made Steelers fans forget the chaos of the Pittsburgh quarterback room of the last couple of years.
* Las Vegas 20- New England 13
Raiders quarterback Geno Smith threw for 362 yards, 103 to tight end Brock Bowers, and they snuck out of Gillette Stadium with a win. Bowers was hurt in the game and is questionable for week two.
In the loss, Pats linebacker Harold Landry III had an outstanding game grabbing 2.5 sacks, five tackles, and four quarterback hits.
*Wash 21- NYG 6
You would think, if three Super Bowl-winning coaches (Pete Carroll, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin) have moved on from quarterback Russell Wilson, in the last five seasons, it would have given the Giants leadership pause for concern.
It didn’t, and Wilson started his stint in New York with under 200 yards passing and zero scores in the loss.
With Jaxson Dart having had, arguably, the best preseason of any rookie, Wilson may be watching from the sidelines sooner than later.
Wilson is a bridge quarterback and doesn’t even know it.
*Green Bay 27- Detroit 13
The Lions losing both coordinators to positions on other teams, definitely showed on both sides of the ball.
The Packers offense had their way early while predictable run calling for the duo of David Montgomery/Jahmyr Gibbs garnered just 44 rushing yards for the Lions.
Other Sunday day scores:
* Ari 20-NO 13
*Ind 33-Mia 8
*Jax 26-Car 10
*Cin 17-Cle 16
*TB 23-Atl 20
*Den 20-Ten 12
*LAR 14-Hou 9
Sunday Night Football:
*Bal 40- Buf 41
Frank Reich likely was smiling on the Stanford campus in Palo Alto, after watching this amazing comeback.
Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen ran for two scores, threw for two more, and with over 400 yards of production the Bills came from 15 down to win.
The comeback wilted Ravens wide receiver Zey Flowers “princess TD wave” and left Baltimore wondering what just happened.
In the loss, Ravens running back Derrick Henry showed he may chase 2,000 yards rushing again, with his 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Monday Night Football:
*Min 27- Chi 24/ SF 17- SEA 13 (Sun)
Minnesota quarterback JJ McCarthy made Vikings fans forget Sam Darnold by tossing two touchdowns, and running for a 14-yard score in the fourth quarter of the come from behind win.
Darnold had the opposite experience, losing his Seahawks debut with an uninspiring 150 yards passing.
