Conquerors Clock Burroughs

(Hacienda Heights) – Los Altos jumped out to a 45-7 halftime lead and played with a running clock the entire second half in a 52-7 rout of Burroughs Thursday night.

Diego Castillo threw for three touchdowns and ran for one and Evan Rojas ran for two scores as the Conquerors finished off Burroughs quickly.

On the first possession Los Altos drove 56 yards on seven plays. Castillo hit Josiah Cortez on a 17-yard touchdown pass.

Los Altos then recovered an onside kick and was in business again at the Burroughs 35. Three plays later Castillo found Cortez again for a 12-yard score.

Daniel Blas banged home a 26-yard field goal later in the quarter and then a blocked punt set up the Conqs again at the Bears 25. Rojas punched it in just a couple of plays later and just like that it was 24-0 Los Altos after one.

The onslaught continued in the second quarter. Rojas capped a 65-yard march with a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Castillo scrambled into the endzone from 11 yards out with 5:38 left in the quarter.

Nathan Estrada picked off a pass on Burroughs next possession to set up the next score. From the Bears 22-yard line Castillo stepped up in the pocket and fired a strike to Gavin Flores to make it 45-0.

Burroughs finally managed to get on the board with 47 ticks left in the first half when Sho Fujita scored on a 7-yard run.

Burroughs agreed to a running clock in the third quarter. Los Altos hit paydirt one more time when backup quarterback Luke Rodriguez got loose for a 20-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Castillo completed 16 of 18 for 222 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 20 yards and a score. Rojas had nine carries for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Cortez had four catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns and Flores had five receptions for 83 yards and a score.

Los Altos shut down the Burroughs offense. Fujita had seven carries for 26 yards and the only touchdown.

The Conquerors remained perfect on the year improving to 3-0. Burroughs dropped to 0-3.
