  1. The New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 Saturday night to win the NBA Finals in five games. It was the Knicks first NBA title since 1973.
  2. Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, who scored 45 points in Game 5, was named the MVP.
  3. The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 Sunday night to win the Stanley Cup in six games.
  4. The United States beat Paraguay 4-1 Friday night in the opening game of the World Cup.
  5. The Spurs had double-digit leads in all four losses of the NBA Finals.
  6. Former NFL defensive lineman Aldon Smith passed away Saturday at the age of 36. Smith played six seasons in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. The 49ers selected him with the seventh pick in the 2011 NFL draft. No cause of death was given.
  7. The Colorado Rockies beat the Athletics 23-9 Sunday at Las Vegas Ballpark – home of the A’s Triple-A affiliate. The Rockies had 24 hits on the day and the two teams combined for 39 overall.

  9. Curacao scored to tie it at 1-1 but Germany scored the next six goals in a 7-1 rout Sunday to open World Cup play.
  10. Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was arrested early Saturday morning in Houston and has been charged with a misdemeanor unlawful carrying of a weapon.
