
(West Covina)- West Covina jumped out to a 21-7 lead at halftime and went on to a 35-14 win over South Pasadena Thursday night at Thyberg Stadium.
Quarterback Elias Irvin threw for two touchdowns and ran for one. Both of his touchdown passes came in the third quarter when the Bulldogs blew it open.
After stopping South Pasadena on fourth down the Bulldogs took the early lead driving 59 yards on 10 plays. Irvin kept it himself on a six-yard run to cap it.

The Tigers responded with a quick five-play march to get even. Andrew Nott hit Tatem Mendoza on a 55-yard pass deep into Bulldog territory. That set up a 14-yard touchdown run by Trey Freking to tie it at 7.
Later in the second quarter Vance Davis broke off a 22-yard touchdown run to finish a 60-yard drive. After Moses Gogue intercepted South Pasadena’s Nott the Bulldogs went to work again.
This time West Covina put together another 60-yard march. Isaac “‘The Machine” Villescas ran through the Tiger defense for a 24-yard score to make it 21-7 with 37 seconds left in the quarter. The Bulldogs took that lead into the half.
West Covina struck quickly in the third quarter. On the first play from scrimmage Irvin connected with Gogue for a 69-yard touchdown pass. 11 seconds into the quarter it was 28-7.

Late in the third the Bulldogs drove 61 yards on just five plays. Davis picked up his second score of the night on an eight-yard run.
Early in the fourth South Pas scored one more time on a one-yard plunge by Freking.
Freking led the Tigers rushing attack with 81 yards and two touchdowns but beyond that South Pasadena’s offense had trouble gaining any momentum. Cody Robinson relieved Nott at quarterback in the second half.
For West Covina the rushing attack produced 200 yards overall. Villescas led the way with 110 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Irvin threw for 140 yards and two scores and ran for one. He accounted for three of the five touchdowns.
With the victory West Covina improved to 3-2 on the season while South Pasadena dropped to 2-4.
