  1. Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, 24, died from an apparent suicide early Thursday morning.
  2. The Lakers beat the San Antonio Spurs 118-116 Wednesday night and have started the season 7-2.
  3. St. Francis quarterback Shawn Sanders has transferred to Paraclete.
  4. The San Diego Padres named Craig Stammen as their new manager. Stammen, a former relief pitcher who retired three years ago, has been working as a special assistant for the Padres.

  6. USC will host Northwestern Friday night at 6:00 PM at the LA Memorial Coliseum.
  7. Don Mattingly, who reached his first World Series this year, is leaving his role as bench coach of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Paul DePodesta, a longtime executive who has spent the last 10 years with the Cleveland Browns as chief strategy officer, is set to be hired by the Colorado Rockies to run their baseball operations department. DePodesta was a key figure in the “Moneyball” era of the Oakland A’s and also spent time as an executive with the Dodgers.
