(La Puente) – Jojo Venegas connected with Tyron Walker three times to spark Nogales to a 34-7 victory over Montclair Friday night at Nogales high school.
Nogales started with the ball first and took it down the field. Venegas found Walker for the first time as he hit him in the corner of the end zone. A missed extra point had it 6-0.
Montclair muffed the kick off and the Nobles fell on it with a short field. Gatsbee Gumban then took it to paydirt from 28-yards out. The two-point conversion was good and it was 14-0 in just 18-seconds.
Cavaliers quarterback Jayden Bacerra took it to the air and Nogales defensive back Adrinn Ry stepped right in front of it and took it to the 30-yard line but the Nobles couldn’t capitalize.
Venegas took it to the ground on Nogales next position, slipping away from defenders from seven yards out to make it 21-0.
The Nobles’ Davon Lewis picked up their second interception of the night in the end zone stopping Montclair’s best drive.
Walker brought in two more touchdowns from Venegas for 13 and seven yards putting the game at 34-0 midway through the third quarter.
The Cavaliers finally got on the board in the fourth quarter when Becerra broke through the Nobles defense for a 13-yard score.
Nogales’ defense held Montclair to 153 total yards as Isiah Lozano and Brandon Garcia, who both just came off a SOP, caused havoc all night.
Anthony Player (cool name) had 44 tough yards for the Cavaliers on the ground and Caden Richards had three catches for 37-yards.
Venegas finished 6 of 11 for 68-yards, three touchdowns and an interception and 58 yards and a score on the ground. Walker had four catches for 40 yards and his three touchdowns. Gumban fought for 138 yards on 21 carries along with a touchdown.
The Nobles improved to 6-0 and will stay home to face Chaffey next week while Montclair falls to 5-1 and will head to Rowland.
