1. Glendale’s Arman Papazyan is the leading rusher in the CIF Southern Section with 1,130 yards on 164 carries. He is averaging 6.89 yards per carry.
2. St. John Bosco is the number one ranked team in the CIF Southern Section.
3. The Atlanta Falcons beat the Green Bay Packers 35-14 on Thursday Night Football.
4. The Chicago White Sox clinched an AL playoff berth with a 9-1 win over the Kansas City Royals Thursday. The White Sox became the first team in major league history to make the playoffs following consecutive 100-loss seasons.
5. The Chicago Cubs clinched a playoff berth Thursday with a 2-1 win over the Miami Marlins.
6. Nevada head basketball coach Steve Alford said he is retiring at the end of the 2026 -’27 season. Alford, who is entering his eighth season at Nevada, has had a 36-year coaching career that also included stops at Iowa, New Mexico and UCLA.
7. San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was fined $14,926 Thursday for “engaging in offensive demonstrations.” According to the league Juszczyk violated a rule when he “did an imitation of chugging a beer” in the third quarter of the 49ers win over the Miami Dolphins.
8. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is hoping to return to the lineup Sunday against the Washington Commanders after missing most of the first two games with a glute injury.
9. Bob Pettit, who won the NBA’s first MVP award in 1956, passed away Wednesday at the age of 93. Pettit was an All-American at LSU before going on to the NBA where he led the St. Louis Hawks to the championship in 1958.
