(Covina) – La Serna scored four touchdowns on the ground and the defense held South Hills scoreless until late in the fourth quarter in a 31-8 win over the Huskies Friday night at Covina Valley District Field

The Lancers scored in every quarter, led 14-0 at the half and finished off South Hills in the fourth. Joe Leal scored on a 22-yard run early in the second and then busted loose for a 45 yard TD romp with 4:29 left in the third to give La Serna a 21-0 lead.

South Hills turned the ball over three times and and had trouble moving the ball on the Lancer D. The Huskies were in La Serna territory on their first two drives but the first one ended in an interception and on the second one they were stopped on fourth down.

Anthony Garcia scored La Serna’s first touchdown on a 27-yard run on the Lancers first possession. Alex Vasquez booted a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to make it 24-0.

South Hills finally got on the board with 2:26 left in the contest on a 16-yard pass from Dylan O’Leary to Quinn Cotter.

*** Garcia rushed for 62 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown.

*** Leal carried the ball six times for 93 yards and and a pair of scores.

*** La Serna quarterback Jonathan Ceballos completed 13 of 15 for 112 yards.

*** Garcia also caught five passes for 60 yards.

*** The Lancers punted just twice the whole night while South Hills kicked it away four times.

*** The Huskies had just 64 yards total on the ground with Ryan Torres leading the way with 55 on 10 carries.

*** Cotter caught 12 passes for 192 yards for South Hills. O’Leary completed 21-34 for 290 yards and and a touchdown. He was hurt by two picks.

*** La Serna finished off the scoring on afive-yard run with 49 seconds left.

*** La Serna improved to 3-1 with the victory, while South Hills drops to 1-3.

*** Jonah Franco and Devin Nava both had interceptions for La Serna.
