Mead March for the Victory

(Temple City) Rosemead (3-2) fought back after a 21-9 deficit at the half to over come the Rams and win 29-28 at North Field on Friday night.

Temple City (1-4) was able to ram the ball down the Panther defense in the first half, highlighted by an 80-yard touchdown run by Josh Simangunsong with 2:10 left in the second quarter. On the night Simangunsong had 186 yards on 21 carries and two trips to pay dirt.

While the Ram defense was able to hold Matt Fergoso at bay for most of the night keeping him at 59 yards and one score on the night. What the TC defense couldn’t stop was Panther quarterback Matt Macias who architected the game winning 71-yard drive finishing it off with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Steven San Miguel. Macias finished the night with 321 yards passing and three touchdowns, all of them coming in the second half.

TC opened up the half scoring on a 39-yard play action pass to from Mikal Quintanilla to Tim Sanderson. Making the score 28-9 with 8:39 left in the third.

The Macias to San Miguel connection was able to get the Mead offense going after the Ram score. Opening up the field to gun the ball to Danny Villalobos and Christian Garcia for two third quarter scores, for 13 and 39 yards respectively.

After the two teams exchanged turnover on downs came the drive for the game. Temple City’s defense was looking like they would close out the game with a Carlos Mota sack on the first play, and pass deflection on the next. On third down and 21 to go Macias lofted a ball up towards the sideline, which was snatched out of the air by Garcia for a 32-yard completion to keep the drive alive and the game for the Panthers alive.  After moving the ball down to the 12 from the 50 yard line after the pass, mainly through passes to San Miguel.

Temple City got the ball back with 1:07 left on the clock and completed three passes and got some help from a pass interference to get the ball to the Rosemead 38 yard line. With 5.7 seconds left Nick Palmer attempted a 45 yard field goal which fell short.

Temple City will open its Rio Hondo league play at home against San Marino.

Rosemead will take the victory back to the Mead to play Gabrielino to open up play in the Mission Valley league.
