Not much changed this past week. Monrovia did what it was supposed to, as did Arroyo and Rosemead. The Panthers did get a scare from Temple City however, which makes you wonder how good the Rams can get and are they a player in this Rio Hondo? All reports indicate the pass protection has improved dramatically but are they second or third best in the Rio? Probably not with La Canada, San Marino and South Pasadena all looking improved but watch out for TC next year when head coach Mike McFarland and his staff have a full off-season to install a workout program and turn them into a tough team.
.) Monrovia (3-2) – Wildcats are the class of the area. M-Town will ease into league play with Blair Friday. Quarterback Nike Bueno racked up three more touchdowns last week.
.) Arroyo (4-1) – Quarterback Steven Rivera made his return to the Knights offense. Word is he started slow but eventually found his rhythm leading his team to a nice victory over La Canada.
). Arcadia (3-2) – Coach Jon Dimalante, a staple of Apaches football, notched his 100th win (or was it 101?) in a drubbing of Muir. Myles Carr continues to impress.
.) Alhambra (3-2) – A bye week to prepare for Keppel? That’s almost unfair…look for the Moors to put up 60.
.) San Gabriel (2-3) – Matadors got a breather last week and now face a Montebello team that is hungry and confident coming off its first win.
.) Rosemead (3-2) – Sources tell me head coach Matt Koffler was confuzzled on how Temple City completely took away the run. The Panthers better figure it out, Arroyo in two weeks.
.) Temple City (1-4) – A young, inexperienced team is beginning to come of age. Player or spoiler in Rio Hondo?
.) Mountain View (3-2) – View fans might be shocked by this but if the Rams can take the run away from Rosemead, I get the feeling TC could take it away from the VIkings which is my reasoning for having them behind TC.
.) El Monte (1-4) – Can the Lions stop View’s Josymar Ulloa? Doubtful, look for Ulloa to take the game over and carry the Vikings to another win over a reeling El Monte squad.
.) Gabrielino (3-2) – Three wins are off teams with a combined 1-14 record. I’m skeptical.
.) South El Monte (1-4) – Things are only going to get worse against Arroyo on Friday.
.) Duarte (0-4) – Defense nearly pitches a shutout, unfortunately the Falcon’s offense was shutout as well.
