Game Night Southeast Division: Week Eight

Thursday, October 28th

Andy Villanueva

PACIFIC
Crescenta Valley (4-3, 2-2) vs. Burroughs (4-3, 4-0) at Glendale HS

Last Meeting: 2010 Burroughs 14-12

Since 2001 Burroughs leads 6-3

Indians are in the perfect spot for the remainder of the season to win a Pacific League title. Only stumbling block could be Muir next week. Lucas Yanez is the best “under the radar” quarterback in the Southeast Division and continues to lead Burroughs to wins. Zander Anding and Tadeo Zuniga make a good tandem at running back.

Falcons have had their wings clipped since Marro Lee went down to an injury. Since Lee has been out, Crescenta Valley is 0-2 and their offense has struggled. Questions arise this late in the season at quarterback can’t help either with Zac Wilkerson being benched in favor of Paul Perigini.

Burroughs 35-14

DEL RIO
California (1-6, 1-1) at El Rancho (5-2, 1-1)

Last Meeting: 2010 California 35-17

Since 2001 California leads 6-3

What a difference a week makes for the Condors. After starting the season winless, they get a win against Whittier and throw their hat into the Del Rio League playoff race with three games remaining. Adam Contreras returned two weeks ago and has the veteran leadership needed to guide Cal to a possible upset against El Rancho.

The Dons took care of business with Pioneer and must not suffer a let-down. Daniel Moriel is exciting and could be the difference between a win and loss. Ronell Lone and Art Franco need to have big games from here on out to get into the playoffs.

El Rancho 28-14

***

La Serna (6-1, 2-0) at Pioneer (4-3, 1-1)

Last Meeting: 2010 Pioneer 34-17

Since 2001 series tied 4-4

The Lancers took it to Santa Fe last week and rolled up 38 points against a Chief defense that only allowed 81 points prior to their meeting. O.J. Medina continues to impress. Tommy Ruiz and Richard Alvarez give Medina a nice breathier. Andrew Buenrostro and Andrew Rosales can connect for the long play.

Titans were brought back to earth last week in its loss to El Rancho. Tony Botello must have the game of his life if Pioneer wants to upset La Serna.

La Serna 35-7

Whittier (0-7, 0-2) vs. Santa Fe (3-4, 1-1) at California HS – Santa Fe 21-0

HACIENDA
Bonita (7-0, 3-0) at West Covina (6-1, 3-0)

Last Meeting: 2008 CIF Southeast Division Playoffs 28-18

Winner gets the inside track in the race for the Hacienda League title.

Garrett Pendleton has been money since his return from injury. Matt Gelalich, Daniel Harriman and Eric Mikity have been to the undefeated season which has given up 44 points in Hacienda League play.

The Bulldogs will play physical along the line and wear down the defense with its running game. Chris Solomon leads the four-prong rushing attack. George Johnson continues to impress with his game-management skills.

Bonita 24-21

***

Rowland (4-4, 1-3) at Walnut (3-4, 1-3)

Last Meeting: 2010 Rowland 27-7

Since 2001 Rowland leads 6-3

Raiders had a defensive meltdown last week against Diamond Bar. Rowland’s offense was clicking all game, but its defense and special teams was another story. With the loss, Michael Ball must show his leadership and get Raiders back into the playoff race with a must-win game.

Mustangs must’ve thought the Hacienda League was going to lead to a playoff appearance. Instead, Walnut is mired near the bottom and must win-out to get in. Jason Tsukada is a complete player that needs more touches.

Rowland 35-28

Diamond Ranch (4-3, 3-0) at Los Altos (0-7, 0-3) – Diamond Ranch 49-0

PACIFIC
Burbank (5-2, 3-1) at Pasadena (3-4, 2-2)

Last Meeting: 2010 Pasadena 45-41

Ulises Ochoa will be asked to carry the bulk of the carries against Pasadena. Adam Colman is still one of the best big-game quarterbacks in the Southeast Division. All Burbank needs to do is win-out and they get a share of the Pacific League title.

Great win against Crescenta Valley has given hope in Pasadena for a possible postseason run. Cleo Bates was there last season and still remembers the feeling of beating Burbank. Brandon Cox is coming into his own leading the offense.

Burbank 35-14

Hoover (1-6, 0-4) at Arcadia (4-3, 3-1) – Arcadia 49-0
Muir (3-4, 2-2) at Glendale (0-7, 0-4) – Muir 42-0

***

SUBURBAN
Cerritos (2-5, 1-2) vs. Norwalk (4-3, 2-1) at Excelsior Adult School

Last Meeting: 2010 Norwalk 60-8

Since 2001 Norwalk leads series 5-4

Dons finally got a win in the Suburban League with a win against Artesia. Jimmie Guevarra tries to lead Cerritos to an upset win.

Elijhaa Penny is now in the building and running over anyone he sees. Penny is leading an offense that has 98 points in its last two games. The Lancers should be in good shape with La Mirada looming on the horizon.

Norwalk 42-0

***

Mayfair (5-3, 4-0) at La Mirada (5-2, 3-0)

Last Meeting: 2010 La Mirada 42-12

Since 2001 Mayfair leads 7-2

This could be for the Suburban League title. The Monsoons need a win and they clinch. Richard Logologo keyed the win against Bellflower last week and Evan Hunko threw for a touchdown. Defense and Special Teams will need to step up against the Matadores.

La Mirada has had its way with the lower rung teams in the Suburban outscoring them 144-20. Shane Blood has 10 TD passes for the Matadores and Max Gama has run for seven. La Mirada will need to play a complete game to get a win.

Mayfair 21-17

Glenn (0-8, 0-4) at Artesia (0-7, 0-3) – Glenn 14-0
