On The Couch: June 14, 2009

Good Sunday!

So unless the NBA has something else planned the Los Angeles Lakers should end the season today with another Title.

You would think that the Lakers would be the Dynasty team in the 2000’s with four wins in nine years.

It would also be a good thought that the fans would learn not to attempt to riot after winning.  It simply amazes me how idiotic that is.

Be prepared to have Kobe be named the MVP of the Finals as well.  I don’t know anyone else from the Lakers that would warrant it.  Not to mention the tired old saying of “Kobe can’t win without Shaq” will final be stopped.

The other positive of the NBA finishing the season is we don’t have to see those LeBron and Kobe puppets any longer.  Can I get a “Heck Ya!”

My love for soccer is quite disturbing.

Beginning today for the next three weeks, I will be glued to my television to watch the Confederations Cup from South Africa.

In one aspect its a dry run for the nation of South Africa who host the 2010 World Cup.  This will also be a good barometer for the US National Team who will have matches against Italy, Brazil and Egypt.

The United States is not expected to survive Group play and with their recent form who can play the critics.

So expect me to be up at the crack of dawn to watch each game.  The game times are 7 am and 11:30 am for the group play games.

The Stanley Cup was lost on yesterday’s column.

What makes the Pittsburgh Penguin championship run so impressive is that close out game for a series was won on the road.   That is just spectacular.

I have also read multiple blogs that suggest the worse move of the off-season was Detroit Redwing forward Marion Hossa signing a one-year free-agent contract with the Red Army after playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins in last season’s Stanley Cup.

In this day of signing for big money Hossa wanted to compete for the Stanley Cup and was one game shy of winning it.  He also took less money to be in Detroit.

How can someone fault him for that?  He went to a team that consistently competes for the Cup year in and year out.
