Titans Cruise in Win

San Marino got out of the gate early, in its win.

(San Marino) – A 25-0 run to begin the season was all San Marino needed to defeat Bernstein in its opening round game of the San Gabriel Valley Classic Tournament.

“It was a great victory,” second-year Head Coach Kenny Fisher said of his Titans win. “There are some very good teams in this tournament and we want to be able to compete with the best.”

If Monday is any indication, San Marino’s defense will keep it in most ball games. The Titans shut-out the Dragons in the first quarter while forcing 10 turnovers.

Kirstyn Leung led all scorers with 16 points, with all coming in just the three quarters of play.

Bernstein struggled against the man-to-man pressure early in the game and didn’t score until the 3:22 mark when Sandra Martinez buried a three-pointer from the top of the arc to cut the deficit to 22.

After the Dragons scored early in the second half, the Titans put the game away for good closing the quarter on a 17-0 run.

Kai Pabon led Bernstein with eight points in the game. Six of those points came in the waning moments of the game.

Leigh Kunitake was the second leading scorer for San Marino with 11. Kunitake made the first three-pointer of the year for the Titans.

Next up for San Marino will be Mission League opponent FSHA tomorrow evening at San Marino. Bernstein returns to action on Wednesday night when they face the Tologs.
