Game Night Southeast Division: West Covina (11-1) at La Mirada (8-4)

Gerry Myres leads La Mirada to the Semi-finals.

Game Time: 7pm

Where: La Mirada High School

HOW THEY GOT THERE: West Covina: def. Norwalk 38-8, def. Pasadena 55-12

La Mirada: def. Crescenta Valley 35-30, def. Arcadia 31-28

When West Covina has the ball: The Bulldogs just manhandled Pasadena last week by exposing its run defense. Now West Covina faces its stiffest test running the ball against a very tough Matadores defensive front. With three running backs to choose from the Bulldogs will be able to wear down La Mirada’s front four. Aaron Salgado, Chris Solomon and Jimmy Frazier will need to establish the run early to be successful.

When La Mirada has the ball: The Matadores showed some intestinal fortitude on offense against Arcadia being able to keep them off-balance. Gerry Myres will look for the screen to Tyler Luatua in short yardage situations and Dallis Shipp for the medium routes. Johnny Hills comes off an incredible game that saw him grind down the Apache defense.

Player to Watch: Chris Solomon (West Covina running back) – Before he was injured in the Covina, Solomon was the “it” running back. Many figured that he would run for 2k. Now he can focus on running the ball 10-12 times a game and play some defense.

Matchup to Watch: Mike Maggiore (West Covina Head Coach) vs Mike Moschetti (La Mirada Head Coach) – Both coaches can make changes when needed. Maggiore has no problem running the ball every single down, even on third and long. Moschetti gets the best out of players and allowed the Mats to believe when the chips were down.

LA MIRADA 28-24
